Thai provincial authorities have agreed to allow Cambodian traders from Banteay Meanchey province’s Poipet city to reenter the Rong Kluea market in Thailand to remove their belongings left behind after the borders between the two countries were closed over COVID-19 fears.

A letter signed by Keat Hul, Poipet city governor, on Friday said: “The Banteay Meanchey and Sa Kaeo (in Thailand) provincial administrations have agreed to reopen the Klong Luek border checkpoint to allow Cambodian traders to collect their merchandise at Rong Kluea Market from July 15, 2020 onward.”

The letter said the checkpoint will be opened for five hours daily from 8am and only 50 vehicles are allowed through each day. The letter said the reopening is only to facilitate Cambodian traders to bring their merchandise back to Poipet. They are not permitted to conduct any business activities at the market. It said that before crossing the border, traders have to strictly follow measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
