Opening hours for Pattaya bars and clubs will not be extended, say police

Opening hours for Pattaya bars and clubs will not be extended, say police

Pattaya's police chief has said that he intends to follow the government instructions to the letter and enforce midnight closing in the resort's bars and clubs.

Representations had been made from operators in the city who wanted Pattaya to be treated as a special case because it is a tourist town and the people are really suffering from early closure.

Pol Col Khemmarin Phitsamai told a meeting with local leaders and a liaison committee that he had no intention of doing that.

Patrons and operators would just have to be patient and wait for the government to change their stance.

Thai media 77kaoded went with the opinion that Pattaya was being strict, appealing for co-operation in the fight against Covid-19 and would not let down its collective guard.

Some of the biggest losers out of this covid business and no bars or limited opening hours are the police... Nuff said...

Not sure why there is an image of a virus in the headlines, because, you don't have to be Einstein to realise that business opening hours have, absolutely, <deleted> all to do with any virus, but, rather, control over people living, and working, in Thailand.

Totally agree.  The local Bandits-in-Brown have 'taxed' every business locally for years.  They are more responsible for losses than the virus.

I do wonder the point of limiting bar hours. I've seen no research indicating that Covid-19 is like Cinderella after midnight, becoming particularly more virulent.

If the point is to restrict total time, that doesn't make any sense. Pre-Covid agogos were open 8-3, or seven hours. Now they're open 7-12 (5 hours), but there is nothing in the 22 rules that says they couldn't open from 5-midnight, a full 7 hours just like before.

Maybe there's a reason other than 'rules are there to be made', but I can't figure what it is.

Sounds reasonable to me - who wants to sit all night getting inebriated and then having to stagger home in the "wee" small hours!!

Covid is a very very smart virus.....Covid hates Walmarts, Costcos,Cannabis shops,Mcdonald's and Starbucks.....But Covid breeds like rabbits in Churches,Barber shops, small family run stores, and in family run restaurants...

Covid hates Black Lives matter protest no matter how many thousands of people...But Covid breeds like rabbits between families who go to the park or beach.....

Covid seem to be behaving itself in the bars and clubs in Pattaya as long as the bars are closed by 12......Covid seem to respect whatever hours the government sets for bars....But Coved knows come 12.01 it will be open season to spread like crazy.....

So its best all the bars follow the 12.00 closing time so as to not give Covid a chance to propagate....

Rubbish, being open all hours doesn't translate into higher income. If people want a drink they will adjust their drinking times.

Having been in lock-down for a spell where no heavy drinking has occurred I also need weaning back onto it!
