Turning in work permit as director and shareholder - any gotchas?

Featured Replies

So, after setting up companies and employing people on a small scale for the past 8 years this visa situation has made me hit a brick wall...

I'm on a 1 year non-B from Penang with a work permit in a company with a thai partner owning 51% of shares, myself 43% and my somewhat AWOL farang partner being registered with 7%.

We have 2 workers, started up a year ago, with me working since December getting us up & going here - until the virus killed off our revenue stream in Europe.

I am now simply looking into using an agent or whatever alternative solution in order to NOT leaving, as that would be risky health-wise and also it would practically shut me out for 1-2 years as it is now.

One alternative is a volunteer visa which could make it easier for me to get onto another work permit after a real down period that I need anyway, or just call it a day and go straight to non-O/retirement...

I'm 51 and will at some point get the marriage papers to stay here really long term, but this is moot for now.

Also been looking a bit into getting a 90 day medical visa as I need a lot of stuff checked too, but from what I heard those are more hit-or-miss.

I will have to decide to pull the trigger or not THIS week, basically resigning and letting the remaining partners do a general assembly and/or sell my shares. I've been advised that the best solution is to sell, but that its also OK not to.

Just to make it clear: if I get onto another visa I will NOT work, I am not searching for a work-around on that level. Worst case I'd be applying for ordinary jobs towards the winter, best case I'd just live quietly off a house sale if it comes through ????
