Domestic tourist movement reaches 3.7 million in first five months

Cambodia has recorded the revival of domestic tourist movement which reached 3.7 million in the first five months of this year, while the number of foreign tourists visiting the Kingdom saw a sharp decline. Monthly report for May 2020 from the Ministry of Tourism showed that between January and May, 2.23 million Cambodian people and 1.48 million foreign tourists travelled to different tourism destinations throughout the country.

 

The most visited destination for Cambodian tourists is the coastal area in the southwestern part of the country, according to the report. The same source stated that the coastal area received 1.1 million domestic tourists in total, and Preah Sihanouk, one of the four coastal provinces, welcomed 266,917 domestic tourists during the period.

 

Foreign tourists visited mostly Phnom Penh capital (784,499), followed by Siem Reap cultural province (386,093) and coastal area (293,967), it added. In the first five months of 2020, foreign arrivals decreased by 59 percent to 1.17 million, pointed out the report.

Good news, and everyone is free to move around within the country -  without fear of Egyptian soldiers on the razzle!!

Before you get to happy. Yes, this is good news for the tourism industry, but not for the countrys GDP. It is just about moving around money within the country. No country could survive on that.
