There are no Covid-19 cases in Bangkok and Rayong, after two foreign cases were announced on Monday (July 13), the Public Health Ministry informed on Sunday morning (July 18).

Dr Suwanchai Wattanayingcharoenchai, Department of Disease Control director-general, said that a total of 6,051 people had been tested from July 14 to July 17, and 4,781 persons were proved to be free from the virus, while 1,270 cases were awaiting results.

On July 14, the ministry said 1,603 people had tested negative -- 1,336 in Rayong and 267 in Bangkok.

On July 15, 1,252 people had tested negative in Rayong.

On July 16, 1,244 had tested negative in Rayong and 97 in Bangkok.

On July 17, 104 of 1,374 people who had tested were negative while the results of 1,270 others were awaited.

Let me understand here, so 6,000 people tested out of what, 10-11 millions and this is enough to declare that there's no Covid in theses places? how's that work?...

I think 6'000 which were in the same places as the infected person (Military or the Embassy person).

You not have to test everybody (actually no country do this.... they only test person which could had contact with that person).

I think the bankok is less dramatic as the embassy persons stayed in self quarantaine... (according to media). but the Rayong soldier were shopping arround so therefore there had to be more testing. For this ThaiChana should help to find out who was in the shopping center at the same time as the soldier! And the Idea is to test person who found out to be in the same location.

If they tested enough or not I also can't say anything.. but you not have to test 11 million people!

From what I understand there is a 14-day incubation period from exposure to actually developing sickness, so it could take someone 14 days to develop illness after being exposed. Thus these tests need to be repeated to ensure that nobody exposed was infected.

But as well all know, that will not happen. Thailand can say "All is well, get back to work" and ignore this situation. This way nobody in the military or government gets in trouble and they can continue the farce that Thailand is virus free.

Just this week the NY Times put our a story about how Thailand has succeeded without actually knowing why. It wasn't until the last two paragraphs the writer mentioned the cases of Burmese and Cambodians returning home from Thailand and testing positive. Also mentioned in the last paragraph was the abysmal rate of testing done in Thailand. Perhaps that's the so-called Secret to Thailand's Success. Don't Test, Don't tell.

Wasn't too long ago that China also denied that there was a problem, no virus, hush hush, if anyone's sick in Thailand, Pneumonia it is going to be, hush hush, don't panic and scare people, we guarantee no one is infected, 100,000 baht if you can prove you have Covid, remember front line, Pneumonia only ! ! !

Don't panic people, we want tourist to come back, PM has it all under control, remember ????

Thailand MUST stay Covid free.........

The exact quote from the NY Times story is:

"Questions are also being raised about why migrant workers who were deported from Thailand arrived home and immediately tested positive for the disease, despite not being included in the official Thai count of coronavirus cases."

Also note that the 23 of 35 Burmese migrants who tested positive exited Thailand on June 8 but they were reported as testing COVID positive as of June 19 per Irriwaddy report.

Very nicely for the government.

This sort of news has a way of creeping out, despite the intentions of some governments.

Slowly, slowly the various "economies of truth" around the world are breaking through despite former best efforts of the powers that be to hide them.

This is slightly :offtopic: but illustrates what I mean https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-51979654

And, as we know, some administrations are more transparent than others!

LOL if they want tourists to return (which they don't),  they would not have such strong restrictions in place would they?

If the lack of positive cases bores you, you can always return to where you came from. There's Plenty of excitement in Florida I hear. If you think there are many positive cases here and they are beign covered up, go to the Thai media and state you case. See how far you get with that lol

No wonder Thais don't want foreigners here.

Myanmar reports 23 coronavirus cases in migrants deported from Thailand June 19, 2020

“Myanmar authorities have to investigate from the patients who just returned what their travel history is and where they have been,” (Taweesin Wisanuyothin, spokesman for the Thai government’s COVID-19 Administration Center), said.

"A Myanmar health ministry spokesman for the coronavirus response did not comment when contacted by Reuters."

Simply mathematics:

Population Bangkok = +- 9 million

n° testings in 3 days = +- 6000

n° testings since beginning of 2020, lets say 6 months in extrapolation of above figures = 360000

% Bangkok population tested since beginning of the year = -+ 4%

Of course we are one of the best of the world keeping the country corona safe.

As the crazy redskin usa president said:" The less you test the less infection rate you get..."

I think in the earlier days, it wasn't 2,000/day. So, the number tested would be lower.

Um, no. Covid 19 is not allowed to transmit locally in Thailand without form LT123 and that form is no longer being given out (also, the form has to be translated and the translator must provide a copy of their id or passport and that must be translated and, so on). So, the people returning to Myanmar from Thailand must have gotten infected after crossing into Myanmar.

I see it as the opposite.

Thailand could even do the tests again, and there would still somehow be foreigners stating the virus just absolutely must be present.
