Police, FDA seize 119 dangerous supplements in Pratunam raid

A team from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and police raided an illegal factory near Bangkok’s Pratunam intersection and confiscated 119 items that were made using hazardous substances and sported fake labels. The products were valued at Bt200,000.

 

An investigation was launched after the FDA reported the production of illegal healthcare products, which led the police to Tofu Skincare based in Bangkok’s Ratchathewi district.

 

The seized items include 58 drugs, 14 cosmetics and 47 supplements, and the company was charged for violating the Medicine Act, Herbal Products Act, Cosmetic Act and Food Act.

 

Paisarn Dunkum, FDA's deputy secretary-general, said the products had come from different countries and were sold under different brands, such as the Moh Yan Hee cream, which carried the illegal substance Hyrodquinone, while other products sold under the names of Idol Slim Apple, Idol Slim Coffee, Idol Slim Plus and Idol Berry Plus carried the hazardous chemical Sibutramine. They were also being sold under fake labels.

 

“The Moh Yan Hee cream was first seized in 2018, but the production of this product and other hazardous products has not stopped,” Paisarn said, adding that the investigation will continue.

 

The analysis was categorised into three types: Selling drugs without permission, selling drugs without registration and selling fake supplements with exaggerated properties.

So were they producing or only selling after import?

If after import how did the products get through customs?
