BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand's cabinet on Tuesday approved a draft framework for cooperation with the United States to promote fundraising for infrastructure projects via capital markets, a government official said.

Both countries will jointly set guidelines and identify opportunities to develop infrastructure and remove obstacles to capital market access, deputy government spokeswoman Rachada Dhnadirek told a news briefing.

The cooperation with the United States, with its large capital market and investor potential, would benefit Thailand's large scale infrastructure development under its 20-year strategic plan, Rachada said.

The United States is also a major market for Thai exports and a big foreign investor in the country.

Rachada said it was the first time that Thailand would cooperate jointly with another country for such projects.

Singapore, South Korea and Vietnam have signed similar agreements with the United States, she added.

Now that will confuddle those who are  so adamant that  China is in control   !

Forget infrastructure and just get Tesla self driving cars for the whole country. All at once. With no manual override. :clap2:

Maybe, just Maybe, a light switch has been turned on, and Thailand has started to realise ( as Singapore, South Korea and Vietnam have ), that there is a very powerful Beast at their very door step.

A Beast that could possibly swallow them whole, and spit out the bones.

Has anyone asked the Chinese if this is OK to go ahead with this..............................:coffee1:

Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong had written and issued an article about 10 weeks ago about USA and China conflict and the implication to ASEAN.   He specifically mentioned ASEAN, not just Singapore alone.  His theme is  DO NOT force the issue and ask us ASEAN countries pick one or the other side.     ( Trump had set up and subsequently cancelled a conference with all ASEAN countries and intended to press the issue in Las Vegas USA  in March 2020 )

Of course USA and the ambassador had been on the Thailand news weekly for over a month.  It is about little basket gifts,  USD 2 million donation and to this infrastructure upgrade  ... blah, blah.   There had not been much substance yet,  but the Americans got agenda, tactic and more offer to come.

And this Beast might be gone/disappeared after 03 Nov 2020. ????

So now should trying their best to "entertain" that Beast... ????

"I've got a great idea! Let's partner with a country whose 70 year old infrastructure is falling apart due to neglect and make our own infrastructure world-class with their expert assistance."

US:
"We have these suckers in SE Asia who want us to lend them money at usurious rates for some pork-barrel infrastructure project, and perhaps we can even start another war in the region with a foot in their backyard!  Better their backyard then ours!"

I suggest a travelling road show touring Thailand featuring stand-up comedians made up from Cabinet members. Twenty Baht per head (triple for non-Thais) should soon fill the coffers.

Who is going to start that war in the back yard of the USA?  I'd pick a part of the yard that isn't in Texas.
