I have searched the forum, but i cannot find a post where it tells me what documents are required in order to buy a car from one farang, and to transfer ownership to another farang. I also do not know WHERE to get this done!!

I apologize in advance if I missed this posting - I really did search!!!

Thanks for you help,

You'll need copies of his passport and visa. You better get a copy of his conf. of add. He needs to sign all copies. You'll need the same. He also has to sign book and power of attorney and bill of sale. These are available at any car or mc dealer.

I too am in this position as I am selling my vehicle. However I am financing my car and my prospective buyer wants to take over the payments. I would think the bank are not too concerned as long as somebody makes the payments. Has any other member gone down this route? Is it a straightforward trip to the bank with buyer, sign some forms and that is that?

Thank you.

Both buyer and seller need Proof of Address as well as the photo copies stated above.........

If both buyer and seller are in the same area then the letter from the Town Hall is fine + is Free, and I get this within 10 mins.

If your not in the same district Licensing, then you will need this letter from your Embassy at a cost but next day. or from Immigration but this takes time about 3 weeks cost is 100 baht for sending this paper to you via EMS.

The next little problem if its a problem is changing the name in the blue book if you out of the cars registration area, as the Forms are different in all Offices, so the buyer/seller must sign papers on both district Licensing forms + if out of area then you/they will get a new number plate 45 baht + have to buy a year road tax for the car with that new number...

It just takes a lot of time, some hours to do the paperwork + some hours to have the car checked over and all the forms stamped. the 5 days later going back to get the new number.......... Take a screw driver as you MUST return the old numbers + the road tax before they give you the new numbers and tax.

I Thai uses there ID, so you will see that most Thales that drive a 2nd hand car do not have there district Licensing areas number plates....... I live in a Village of 63 houses total of 103 cars/truck here, my truck and the 1st 2 cars all had BKK numbers as I used a dealer, my present car [October 2008] I did myself private... I live right on the far edge of Nontaburi district Licensing, so my car now has Nontaburi district Licensing number plate + one other car in this Village has Nontaburi plates ALL the other cars and trucks have BKK plates.
