Many, including among the Thai authorities, seem to think that by saying "come in, we are open", Chinese tourists will flock to Thailand as if it were 2019 again.

 

Yet, Macau, which is Chinese and very much open for business, is not seeing these hordes of tourists, not by a very long shot.

 

And remember that visiting Macau doesn't require any visa, insurance, quarantine and whatever else is required to enter Thailand.

How can anyone compare Macau a gambling mecca to Thailand?

Macau is not cheap to visit and is obviously for those that have no problem losing money.

Thailand and Macau are 180 degrees from one another obviously as Chinese that come here do not have gambling as their priority.

I actually believe Thailand is the first place they will look at now.  Very low/no Covid at the moment, and cheap tours, accommodations, big incentives will be offered.

They will be coming in droves at some point probably sooner then later.  So, enjoy the quietness of this place while you can.

Never seen Chinese tourists in Isaan, so never mind how this will turn out, I will keep enjoying the quietness.

 

Having said that, I will take the other side of your bet (even if we are not in Macau) and say that Thailand will not see Chinese tourists coming in droves anytime soon.

That's odd, says here: Travelers from Taiwan, Hong Kong, and the rest of China are able to enter Macau.

Chinese will first go for holidays in there own country and avoiding planes..Just what most world citizens are doing..

Less Chinese would be a positive development!
