ASQ Observations-Play the game

Hi all,

After a miraculous run of hoop jumping to get a C.O.E and make it back to LOS have been in ASQ for over a week now just over the hump.

Now after the initial 1st Covid test on the 2nd day we are allowed 1 hr per day recreation in a smallish restricted area set aside from the main hotel which has a few exercise machines and gym gear, spaced seating and some garden area.

The rules are very simple in that you make a booking and if slot available you get escorted by staff who open doors and take you to the area under the provision that you wear a mask at all times and social distance,do not touch the door handles, use alcohol gel-easy enough. This is well posted on the Line application and the door of the room and explained by staff at checkin.

What has really been gob-smacking is the number of (LHF)low hanging fruit that get to this area and then take off their face masks(<deleted>?) Now every day I have been taken to this area I have observed multiple persons blatantly ignoring the rules and it is really disappointing to see such a lack of respect.

I have brought this up with the staff who seem to be intimidated(lack of english) to ask these clowns to abide by the simple rules and acknowledge that some foreigners are "hard work".

By the way this facility has had several cases of foreigners arriving and later testing positive for symptoms of COVID 19 so what is to say there are not some who might test negative then positive at a later date after being cleared on the 1st test and making use of the rec area.

It is little wonder Thai people are not wanting foreigners to enter the kingdom if this is the reckless behavior exhibited by some while in QUARANTINE.

Now Thai people have played the game by doing the simple things mentioned above and have succeeded where most countries have failed in bringing the virus to heel.

People staying in ASQ. It is a privilege you have been afforded to be able to enter the kingdom so please do not bring your "rebel without a clue" habits from where you came from as it is not wanted and indeed you are bringing all foreigners into disrepute by doing so.

Wifey has mentioned in the area where we live that all persons going outside are still wearing masks. This may well apply to the area where you are going after ASQ so thinking that you can just rockup and go into "no facemask" mode may be ill advised as the locals will give you a tune and it will not make you Mr popular so do the right thing.

On another note in seeing multiple persons using the exercise equipment provided the machines are not being wiped down or disinfected after each use-some food for thought for those using the equipment(are you feeling lucky).

Now maybe I am being paranoid but an ounce of prevention in this case may well be prudent.

Above all your a guest in this country so try to set a good example. It really is not that hard.

Regards

ASQ? C.O.E? Translation!

What hotel is it that you are staying in ?

Alternate State Quarantine = COVID quarantine hotels set aside for farangs at their expense.

COE - Certificate of Entry from the Thai MFA/Embassy/Consulates

Best to leave names out of this as we know where that can lead.

I am sitting here in the States waiting for tourists to be allowed to enter again - probably stuck until there is a vaccine. I love Thailand (people, culture, language) and am very disappointed that it will be a long while until I can return.

I find it to be really disturbing that people with privilege to return are arrogant and disrespectful of Thai regulations. Sure, the efficacy of some regulations is debatable, but really that is not up to a guest to determine.

These people are clearly taking their presence in the Kingdom for grated.

I was at an unnamed disco on Saturday. Extremely crowded, temperature taken on arrival and phone number of my girlfriend. Inside apart from the staff nobody wearing masks! Social Distancing a complete joke with people dancing and kissing. Disco probably provides a very large brown envelope. Left at 4AM.

In the 15 years I have been living in Thailand I have never met "do you know who I am" westerners.

Are you the type of westerner known as "away with us" types?

Are discos allowed to operate at the moment?

They are supposed to close at midnight. But, as with these idiots in quarantine, they are allowed to get away with it as no-one enforces the rules. It was ever thus in Thailand. If you don't abide by the rules/law then no-one takes any action against you, whether it's flouting the quarantine rules, discos staying open beyond the permitted hours or anything else.

And that is exactly why so many foreigners like being in Thailand. They don't have to discipline themselves or try too hard to obey rules.

Excellent insight from the OP, by the way.

Maybe they are medical tourists here for a lobotomy.

You do not say where you are, but if in Bangkok please stay there. We have enough of your kind traveling up here. Thankfully some are killing themselves on the road that are not straight.

Singapore figured a way of convincing people...

Singapore charged a couple from China last month under the Infectious Diseases Act for providing false information and obstructing coronavirus contact tracing. Anyone convicted for a first offense under the act can be fined as much as S$10,000 ($7,000) and jailed for as long as six months.

SG is also implementing gps bracelet for those the meeting the requirements to quarantine at their home. Once to their residence

the bracelet is activated .. removing or disabling can face the above

Way up here in the North of Thailand about 50% of people have masks with about 50% of those wearing them around their chins. No social distancing at all. Masks are only worn where they are required, like at the mall and big department stores. Local markets and shops have pretty much dropped the whole mask, social distancing thing. Just got back from a trip to Hua Hin and Pattaya and far more mask wearing going on there but really no social distancing.

Yes. The OP post had a good insight on some foreigners lack of respect and commended for the comments.
However it also seems to suggest that Thais are playing by the rules here.

Best stick to quarantine with the comment, otherwise there is a disconnect.
Keeping to the rules is simply not the case with Thai Disco and bar areas in my experience.
The point about discos being open is Thais are letting it happen and it is nothing to do with idiotic farangs.

The Thais are the ones who don't enforce the rules and not the farangs, and many places are packed with Thais, not Farangs.

Try going to Ratchada the bar area at train night market (thai cultural center MRT) at 11pm and you will see how little the Thais think about masks and social distancing.  And some people think Bangkok may be strict?

For some reason we seem to be lucky here. But I disagree that it is because the Thais abide by the rules.

I take it you enjoy Russian roulette & eating hospital food.

You really need to give yourself a shake buddy.

Or more simply the hotel refuses recreation facilities to those who break the rules required, ie not wear a mask in the gym.

Well, you really are very brave. If everything you described were true, I would have turned around and walked out without taking a single breath. I suppose I must be a coward...

At day #12 of quarantine here, got my second test later today.

I have been quite worried by seeing so many people testing positive at day #12... Since my first negative test I also have the right to book 1 hour in the "gym", have my room cleaned. There seems to be quite some thai people in my ASQ, some with kids that seem allowed to run and play in the hall. Knowing that not all thai people get tested for covid before coming and that most positives at day #12 are said to "have been in contact with someone infected" (for me it means they got seated around someone that got positive early), I don't want to take any risk after all the hassle and cost to get ther.. I have refused to have my room cleaned (I can do it myself), and I have not gone out beside for the covid test (which was supposed to be taken in my room originally).

Crossing my fingers for this last test (well I was negative before flying, I was negative 1 week ago, have no fever and no symptom... I would be <deleted> to test positive) and I should be out on sunday.

Same here in the North East.  Virtually no-one wearing masks or practising social distancing even in the market or shops.  In fact my wife and I get laughed at and ridiculed for wearing a mask.  In the nearest town only some, approx 10% wear masks.  The table at the entrance to 7/11 and Tescos where they were checking your temp and give you gel has been abandoned for weeks.  Even the staff are not wearing masks anymore.

Annoys me when I hear the govt boasting low infection rates because of their hard work and that Thais are so disciplined.

Thanks for the post. It provides another side of the story for ASQ.
