The head of the independent panel, appointed by the Government to investigate the handling of the Red Bull heir’s hit-and-run case by the police and public prosecutors, has announced that their findings must lead to changes in the two law enforcement agencies, otherwise the probe will have been pointless.

The panel’s chairman, Vicha Mahakhun, told the media on Wednesday that his panel will look at the big picture, concerning the performance of both the police and public prosecutors in their handling of the controversial case.

He said they will consider the reports of the panels of public prosecutors and police investigating the case and will invite witnesses, and others related to the case, to give testimony.

The important word is 'enforcement'.

You can have as many laws and regulations as you like. If they're not enforced - and enforced consistently and impartially - then it's pointless.

'The panel claimed that the police had not included the drug abuse issue in their investigative report on the case.  Additionally, the panel claimed that the conclusion of a physics lecturer at Chulalongkorn University, who works for the police forensic science department, claiming that Vorayuth’s Ferrari was travelling at a speed of 177kph at the time of the accident, was also not included in the police report'

Bizarre hey, one could be forgiven for thinking they don't want to prosecute the scrote...?

Wonder why that might be...?

Oink, oink!!!

Anyone want to bet? I take 'pointless'

'Earlier, prosecutors in charge of the case, with the approval of the Office of Attorney General (OAG), decided not to indict Vorayuth on the outstanding charge of reckless driving causing death to other people. The decision was not challenged by the police, who revoked the arrest warrant against him'

His family are multi millionaire's you say.....

Most peculiar, you could be forgiven for believing the people in charge of the case are absolutely rotten to the core and only in it for the back handers

I wonder is that country hating do you think like Gen Apitat has been going on about or is it just the mo of every single member of the junta and their allies

Is country hating reserved for kids that question the status quo????

This story has made the international media and there's been reactions....

These "need to be seen" panels of investigation would never be allowed to report what actually happened....there would be too many big names published.

But instead, they'll have to put up with the embarrassment of being publicly stupid once again.

"change in two major agencies"

Least not, a change in the third most notably - Office of the Prime Minister. All government agency policies flow 'downhill' from there.

Here's another picture... of how life works in Thailand with the two agencies.

Police investigate and submit ALL evidence in a documented and timeline file to Prosecutors , who then legally decide if any charges will be made and enacted upon. De-politicise the POLICE and Prosecutors .

The big problem is that the RTP seem incapable of running a clean investigation with intelligence

It's obvious and it becomes a reality that the "Riches" have total control over Thailand.

Mrs. BB concurs. She made exactly the same comments after watching this morning's TV news.

She thinks the plan will be to go on and on and on until everyone is just bored with it and then it will disappear and no one will be bothered anymore. A tried and tested methodology.

Intelligence is superfluous to any discussion where RTP is mentioned.

I've been telling folk for years that Thong Lor Police are the most corrupt cop shop in the country bar none.

During my time here I've seen their pee testing extortions, heard accusations of evidence planting, local business shakedowns, stop and searches including pulling foreigners out of taxis (as Asok junction in particular, myself included), alleged drug dealing activities, bungled investigations (Santika anyone) etc.

Shouted down by others, who claimed I did not know what I was talking about despite having lived in Bangkok for 24 years, having drunk in their jurisdiction for 18 of those years and having dealt and often socialised with officers from that station on numerous occasions.

There are none so blind as those that refuse to see.

Fully concur regarding Thong lor Police.

Every morning an XXX online App group shares any police activity and it is mostly centered on Sukhumvit between Ekkamai up to Asoke.  Stopping people walking to do pocket searches, pulling people out of taxis for searches, randomly stopping cars / bikes looking for drugs.
After the coup this police activity went quiet, but immediately after the bogus election they came back out in force.

I volunteer to be the probe operator.

Yea surprising that since a certain PM in charge promised police reforms 6 years ago.
Another police corruption scandal.
