The results of a poll will leave some 007 fans spitting out their martinis in shock. Because while Sean Connery has been voted the greatest, Roger Moore and current Bond Daniel Craig failed to make it into the top three. The Scottish actor came out on top in the survey for RadioTimes.com with 44 per cent of the vote, ahead of Timothy Dalton in second, with 32 per cent, and Pierce Brosnan in third with 23 per cent. Popular Post Logosone
Mine is Roger Moore as well. Obviously that survey is as reliable as Thai Covid 19 figures if Timothy Dalton got more votes than Roger Moore. 4
Popular Post canuckamuck
Daniel Craig was the only believable tough guy spy. The others were better perhaps at playing the role of Bond, which is far-fetched but good theater.
pacovl46
Dalton in second place?! Wow! I would’ve never guessed that in a million years! My favorite is Brosnan then Connery then Craig.

Popular Post Kerryd
I always thought Pierce Brosnan was the "signature" Bond. He seemed to be the only one that had the "proper English school" demeanour, class and style that one expects from a Bond. I've actually just been binge watching all the Bond movies in order. Just finished Moonraker last night. In my pecking order, I had the Bonds rated differently. 1. Pierce Brosnan - Best Bond. 2. Sean Connery - the original Bond. 3. Daniel Craig - the "Bourne" Bond. 4. Timothy Dalton - the "Angry" Bond. 5. Roger Moore - the Clown Bond. 6. George Lazenby - the Forgotten Bond. To me, Craig's Bond is simply trying to "out Bourne" Jason Bourne (and Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt) by being more physical and drawing out the fight scenes longer. Dalton seemed overly angry most of the time, not the calm, cool Bond we usually see. He only got the job because Brosnan couldn't get out of his Remington Steele TV contract. For Moore, it seems every one of his Bond's was being played more for laughs than anything else. Stupid gags and gadgets in every movie. Brosnan was basically playing a similar role in the TV series Remington Steele, which is what got him picked to be the next Bond after Moore. However, when news leaked that he was being considered for the role, the producers of the TV series refused to let him out of his contract early as they wanted to cash in on his popularity. That is how Dalton ended up with the role. Apparently Dalton was picked to replace Connery for On Her Majesty's Secret Service but decided he was "too young" to play the part, which ended up going to Lazenby. Dalton would have been in Goldeneye instead of Brosnan as he was contracted to do 3 movies. However, legal issues with the studios delayed the movie for nearly 5 years and Dalton's contract expired. He decided he didn't want to do a 3rd Bond film and a couple months later Brosnan was announced as the new Bond. Moore had been in the TV series "The Saint" in which he played a suave, charming (and comedic) modern day (for the mid-60s) Robin Hood type character. He basically played Bond the same way. Lazenby was over-rated, by far. He wasn't great and it's probably a good thing he decided to not do another Bond, which he didn't because he was worried about being "typecast" and his agent apparently told him about some unknown guy named Clint Eastwood who was making $100,000 a pic making westerns in Italy, so Lazenby decided to try his luck elsewhere. Probably not the best career decision he could have made. Especially as that was his first film credit ! (He's still acting, a lot of TV and voice stuff, nothing "big" though.) Connery, being the original, set the standard for the rest to follow, most of whom didn't reach that high. It'd be the same thing if they replaced Vin Diesel as the lead in the next Fast and Furious, or Cruise in the next Mission Impossible or Keannu Reaves in then 2 next John Wick movies. Whoever replaced them would be judged by the standards set by the original actors and would have a real hard time living up to that. Which is why so many "remakes" fail miserably. It's a bit of an eye-opener to watch the end credits of the older movies, and see how few people worked on them compared to today. Sheesh, the end credits in the first dozen Bonds are finished in like, 2 minutes ! Not like the 10+ minutes they run today. I wonder if those credits count towards the "run time" of the movie ? As in, is a 120 minute movie really 10 minutes of intro, 100 minutes of movie and another 10 minutes of credits ? Seems like it sometimes. I was just reading about why "Q" wasn't in the first 2 Daniel Craig Bond movies (Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace) and it seems the producers were concerned that "too much was being made of the (Bond) film's gadgets. ! Which is ridiculous because half of "Bond" is the different gadgets he always uses, many of which were way ahead of their time (like car phones for example). Even Craig apparently expressed concern over his absence (hence the new, younger, tech-savvy "Q" in Skyfall). I'm surprised Craig even did the next Bond film. After Spectre he publicly stated he'd rather slash his wrists than do another Bond film. Then again, looking at his list of credits since Spectre it seems he hasn't been getting a lot of "non Bond" work. Parts in 3 movies no one has heard of, 2 TV series episodes, 1 credit as an (uncredited) Stormtrooper and 3 Bond related credits (shorts/spoofs/title "reveals"). I wonder what he'll threaten to slash next once "No Time to Die" is released ? And who will the next Bond be ? I'm guessing they'll make the "politically correct" choice and if it turns out to be Idras Elba, that'd be fine. I think he has the similar class and style of the Connery/Brosnan Bond's. People freaked when it was announced the blonde haired Craig would become the Bond after Brosnan but now they don't think twice about it. Probably the same reaction if Elba gets the role.
Logosone
The correct ranking would be: 1. Roger Moore 2. Sean Connery 3. Pierce Brosnan The rest doesn't count. Pierce Brosnan is one of the best looking men who ever lived. But he's skinny, lanky and lacked that Alpha Male quality that Bond needs. Connery had the most of it but Roger Moore was the suavest and funniest bond and the lightness of bond makes it special. Plenty of action movies, but the class and fun was what made Bond special. Moore had the class, looks and above all chemistry with each of the leading ladies, like Connery who was too rough around the edges. Daniel Craig was the pitbull Bond, just awful. The worst Bond of all. Edited August 11, 2020 by Logosone

grumpy 4680
I think people are confusing the best Bond, with the best scripts, Connery led the way, all those years ago, then over the years, the actors and stories changed, some for the better, some for the worst, but I think Daniel Craig has revitalised the Bond movies, after Flemings books ended. Maybe, too many voters based their choice on the year they were born, hence the variations in their decisions.
Mac98
Craig is closest to the Bond character as written by Fleming. But in 1962 I saw a trailer for an upcoming movie at a "Buck a carload" drive-in theater. It was called "Dr. No". I was instantly sold on the movie and Connery. spidermike007
Dalton over Moore and Craig? Must be alot of Covid zombie brains at work. Connery was amazing. A genius of an actor. A one of a kind for sure. However, I loved Roger Moore. His dry humor was outstanding. For me, he is second. Craig third. Brosnan fourth. Who next? There will never be another Sean Connery. General references in the novels describe Bond as having "dark, rather cruel good looks". As a blonde craig is rather the exact opposite of the Bond written by Fleming. His Bond also had a love of food, alcohol and love-making, and a smoking habit of 60 custom-made cigarettes a day. One can't see the dour Craig enjoying any of those things, or any other things really. In the books Bond is not fond of homosexuals, with Bond opining that homosexuals were "a herd of unhappy sexual misfits – barren and full of frustrations, the women wanting to dominate and the men to be nannied", adding that "he was sorry for them, but he had no time for them." Craig by contrast seems quite "woke".
rcummings
I still think no one comes close to Connery. But that said, I rewatched Goldfinger recently and I was amazed by how slowly it moved. What we get now is not Bond, even if his name is Bond. When they started discussing whether to put a woman in the position it just put the final nail in the coffin.
