Flight Availability - BKK-UK

Featured Replies

My mates wife (Thai National) is currently in Thailand but wishes to return to the UK ASAP.

He has been looking at the availability of flights and it appears there are a number of flights fly on a daily basis from Bangkok to the Middle East, then there are many flights flying between the Middle East and the UK.

Are these flights between Bangkok and the Middle East carrying regular fare paying passengers? They seem to be open  for booking online with no problem.

The reason he asks is because of a Bangkok Post article today where a TAT spokesman was quoted as saying both inward and outward flights are banned.

What are we missing here? If she books the flight is she going to be refused check in at the airport in Bangkok?

Many thanks for any help.

No problem.

I know half a dozen Thais who have flown to the U.K.

Most took the weekly EVA flight.

2 unreliable sources in one sentence.  There are plenty of flights.  For the UK as mentioned the easiest is EVA BR67 every Sunday.

Unless your final destination is Heathrow you have to transit somewhere, so also look at Emirates, Etihad and Qatar via the Middle East, or Finnair, Lufhansa, Swiss or KLM.  There my be more but these are ones that appear to have been confirmed, although not all are daily flights.

The Middle East three all require Covid test certificates before they'll let you board so bear that in mind.  I'm not sure about the others.

Can you provide links which support this requirement?

AFAIK, Qatar requires testing as of 13 August 2020 but only if you originate in certain countries. Thailand is not on the list.

In our current network, these countries are Bangladesh, Brazil, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Philippines, and Sri Lanka. They will also be required for passengers travelling with Qatar Airways from India, Nepal, Nigeria and Russia, when we resume our services to these countries.

QR has daily one-stop service to LHR: BKK-DOH-LHR. 15,000 ish in economy, 46,000 ish in business.

Assuming the OP's mate's wife has the proper visa can't see any issues?

No, I just saw the headline and assumed it was all passengers, but you're right it's restricted to the countries listed.
