BANGKOK (NNT) - The Cabinet has approved 3 more social and economic development campaigns, worth 1.1 billion baht, which will be funded by the 400 billion baht emergency loan for COVID-19 recovery. These 3 new projects have been approved, in addition to the first lot of campaigns worth 100 billion baht.

The campaigns approved today include the 203 million baht Effective Microorganisms innovation center for the food industry, by Thailand’s Institute of Scientific and Technological Research, which will help related industries rely less on the import of Effective Microorganisms. This new project is expected to create 250 new jobs for new graduates and the general public, as well as benefiting some 30 companies in the food industry.

The second campaign is the promotion of the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economic Model in the Eastern Economic Corridor, also by Thailand’s Institute of Scientific and Technological Research. This 115 million baht campaign targets farmers on some 53 square kilometers of farmlands currently using microbial pesticides. This campaign is intended to help cut down the cost of imported pesticides by 16 million baht annually, help farmers reduce manufacturing costs at an average of 11.5 million baht annually, reduce health risks farmers face from the use of chemicals and promote investments in bio-based industries.

The last campaign approved today is the forest areas development project by the Royal Forest Department, worth 863 million baht. This campaign is aimed at creating jobs and more income in 7,554 communities, home to 31,148 people across the country.

The campaign is also intended to create 2,182 forest fire networks to help prevent disasters, while at the same time create 70 million good quality seedlings from 40 plant nurseries. A survey will be conducted to update the land occupancy data of 3,000 villages located in national forests, while villagers in some 2,000 communities will be encouraged to participate in community forest management.
