Khao San Road: 240 stalls will be allowed to operate starting next month

The Bangkok Metropolitan authority has given the green light for traders to begin selling in Khao San Road from the beginning of September.

Bangkok governor Gen Aswin Kwanmuang said after a meeting at city hall that refurbishment and development work was now complete.

There will be two shifts for traders: 9 am to 4pm and 4 pm to midnight.

A total of 240 stalls will be allowed.

There must be proper access for ambulances, emergency vehicles and fire services.

Each trader will be permitted to trade for between one and 2 years. Exact details of how this will work will be ironed out in further meetings this week.

Normally a busy tourist area, Khao San Road has been very quiet during the pandemic, notes Thaivisa. Operators in the area hope to be able to attract a Thai clientele to make up for the lack of foreigners.

Yes, but give credit where it is due.............not one of them is upright / level either, that takes some doing...........

Two hundred and forty stalls, that will probably work out at about two stalls per customer per night..........

It will be a big hit for about 2 weeks, and then it will go under financially.

An era has ended after this so called "upgrade".

Adjust the prices and you should get Thai customers.

Hang on a second. Wasn't it only a few months ago that the government was trying to do away with these traders? The mind boggles.

Not all   !       There are perhaps many different sizes,  but is is not really possible for them all to be different

Heros. now nobody is coming.

We call that 'amsterdammertjes'

For what?

No commercial airlines allowed into this kingdom.

Expecting those trapped tourists  to come to Khao San Rd?

Anything & everything P's government says  about exist strategy is  so unrealistic & absurd.

Cannot expect any tourists return as long as the stupid restriction(coronavirus free certificate) is in place.

Just in time for high low no season????

they certainly don't seem to be the same height, the work started around january/february plenty of time, you'd think, to get it right...

I actually feel bad for these stall traders, who will borrow more money from their loan sharks to restock their stalls, only to go bankrupt in 3 months.

It may find success if aim for the protesting students nearby...

Not many other " tourists" attract really.

Presumably the market stalls will have to pay more to be there, so the market is no longer cheap. Better to set up Khosan road 2 in adjacent soi

Sorry, but that is not true.  They are all the same size, just buried to different depths.

'nuf sed.
