Popular Post Thomas J
I can certainly understand being cautious but honestly, even assuming Thailand can have zero coronavirus cases when exactly do you reopen the borders? When the rest of the world has zero cases? When there is a vaccine? Even the experts say they are HOPING for a vaccine that is 60% effective. HIV is far more deadly yet they don't shutter the borders, test everyone, and require insurance for HIV? To beat a dead horse, one day last week 76 people were killed on Thailand roads. No bars closed, no borders shuttered, no alcohol bans etc. Yet only 58 people in months died from Coronavirus. Seems like killing an ant with a tank. A lot of overkill for the scope of the problem.
2 is 1
HIV is mostly self-inflicted so can't compare ! Traffic is what it is here! Everybody know's what should do about traffic issue , but they don't add resource and behavior about that!

JeffersLos
Quote Remain Closed Borders Forever? Yes. The borders will be closed forever, you nor anyone else will ever, ever be allowed to leave.
Popular Post Bluetongue
Governments are paralysed by incompetence and the fear they have created. In Australian media today, gleefully reported that even if there was a vaccine today it will be 2 to 5 years before there are enough supplies of it, and enough people have had it to make it work. Yet the clowns in charge still indecisive as ever. More people have to want to move about, at the moment enough of them are also still paralysed, whilst quite a few seem to be enjoying themselves in changed behaviours etc. Dont forget most people in most countries probably dont travel abroad, so really couldn't care less anyway.
Brunolem
Once again this is not a one way issue...Thailand is not operating in a different dimension. Who exactly is travelling abroad for tourism these days? Some Europeans, between European countries, and that's about it. Opening the borders to tourism should be worth the risk. If Thailand gets a so-called second wave of covid 19 in exchange for a few thousands tourists, is it worth it? Given the current situation, both Chinese and Indians, representing by far the biggest share of tourists, are not ready for international travel. What Thailand would be likely to receive in its first batches of tourists, if it opened its skies and borders, would be a bunch of Europeans and Americans, mostly retirees, eager to flee their own countries and enjoy both the weather and the pandemic free Thailand. Forget about mass tourism...there isn't any, anywhere in the world, and there won't be any for the foreseeable future...
Paiman
Most politicians are mainly afraid of getting blamed for not having done enough. Best bet, the borders will stay closed for the foreseeable future. But, Tourism will thrive, because the committees decided it will do so. ???? ???? ???? Yes bkk6060 you can take precautions however the point is that the disease is far more deadly. Does it mean you don't test for HIV because those in Thailand can elect to avoid it but you don't care if they contract the disease if they are irresponsible. Is this about preventing disease or isn't it. In terms of traffic deaths, the government "could do more" They could impose serious penalties on driving under the influence, jail repeat offenders. Far far far more people die each and every year from traffic accidents yet those lives are apparently not as important as the ones we prevent from getting what is mostly a curable disease. Seems like the deaths from coronavirus are more important to not just Thailand but to the entire world than those lost to Malaria, or TB which kill again far more people than the Covid 19 virus.
