I think it's time for news agencies to return to the tried-and-tested way of reporting when they don't have evidence - to say 'claimed Washington' or 'authorities announced.' I don't mean this particular article, or the way it appears on AN, I mean all of the news reports in recent months in mainstream media. Because of visual censorship they can't verify what they are being told so they need to hedge a bit. We don't know if these events happened (at all actually) - we were simply told they happened.
