Weekday company trips urged in bid to boost tourism sector

In a bid to stimulate the tourism sector, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is calling on listed companies to consider taking their staff out on trips or organise corporate social responsibility events up country.

 

TAT governor Yuthasak Supasorn said his organisation has talked with related agencies about promoting tourism during working days, adding that travelling during the weekends or on public holidays is not enough to help boost the tourism sector.

 

Hence, he said, TAT will push for tax incentives for listed firms to encourage domestic travel during working days.

 

Yuthasak also said that firms that organise the highest number of trips will also get a certificate from the prime minister helping the local economy.

 

He said the plan will be proposed to the Cabinet once it is studied and approved by relevant agencies.

 

TAT is also eyeing unlisted companies and plans to promote staff trips under the “Rao Tiew Duay Kan” tourism stimulus package.

 

Separately, TAT is also planning to extend its 40 per cent discount on hotels from five to 10 nights. The government launched this subsidy in mid-July, but so far, only 660,000 of the 5 million discounted nights on offer have been booked.

 

Travellers will also see their Bt1,000 discount on domestic flights increased to Bt2,000, Yuthasak said.

 

These measures will be submitted to the Cabinet for approval on Tuesday.

Companies under pressure from COVID-19 requested to increase expenses and reduce productivity. Why didn't I think of that?

Why do you believe companies can afford to close for a day and take their staff for a holiday this is living in a desperate dream land where stupid ideas abound .

An offer like this will irresistibly lure, tantalize, tempt, charm, entice, and seduce....every citizen of the nation.

Talk about scraping the barrel, cash strapped companies trying to compete in a sliding economy are now being asked to splash-out on "jollies" around the country.

How out of touch are T.A.T, directors of companies must be throwing their arms up in disbelief that they could come out with such rubbish.

The Immigration Dept. could assist here by taking ALL the staff who are NOT working at the airports due to the travel restrictions on a few daily tours to help out the economy

They could go to Soi Cowboy, Nanna Plaza.

Ah, the sweet smell of desperation.

 

What's wrong with this plan? Other companies might find themselves in a tougher spot, too. Time and/or money might be too tight to go on lavish mid-week outings. Just a thought.

 

It would be a good idea to close TAT down for a few months-let them travel around Thailand a bit, pick up some trash, clean a few beaches, and give us a break 

How can they come up with all these outlandish ideas? Company trips? When the obvious answer again is given by western democracies where worker are entitled by law to several weeks of paid recreation leave. France, for instance, where the tourism sector is as large as Thailand's has seen a dip of "only" 25% thanks to the sizeable expansion of the domestic market. Some areas had net gains over 2019, while place like Paris where deserted due to the absence of (dirty?) foreigners. 

Unfortunately, in the time of COVID tourism, even domestic, will mean higher circulation of the virus. Hence the current second waves in Europe.
