Seven of Thailand’s domestic low-cost airlines have been promised a new lease of life, after Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha agreed to help, starting with the injection of 24 billion baht in soft loans for the struggling aviation sector, hard hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Representatives of Thai Air Asia, Thai Air Asia X, Thai Smile, Thai Lion Air, Thai Viet Jet, Bangkok Airways and Nok Air met with the Prime Minister at Government House Friday morning, to air their grievances and to submit their request for support.

Government spokesman, Mr. Anucha Burapachaisri, said after the meeting that the seven airlines have responded to the Government’s request to retain their approximately 20,000 staff throughout the COVID crisis, despite the fact that their business is severely limited by the lockdown measures.

Why is Bangkok Airways listed as a low-cost airline?

They should only be concerned about Nok, Bangkok & Thai smile.

The others are simply outside Thailand expansion

Jeez, that's 1.2 million baht per employee !

Saving airlines is a mugs game, saving low cost ones is several levels of idiocy above that. Let them go to the wall,  if there is a market, someone will come along to serve it, if not, then good riddance. Same with Thai Airways.  A mugs game to try to revive something that is already brain dead.

Is that going to be one less submarine now?

Is that financed with Chinese loans?  :whistling:

The problem with domestic tourism is, they need everybody to do it - which means nobody's at work when you arrive at your destination, they are at your home.

Washing each other's shirts isn't really a brilliant business model.

It is low cost.. for the Bangkok upper middle class.

They want to concentrate on Thai Airways first, so my daughter

can get the 12,000 THB back she is owed.????

With the Government helping everyone, and spending vast sums

on military hardware, someone needs to go down to the vaults

to see if those huge foreign reserves are still there.

just rebuild the planes to a submarine, win win 555555
