Amazing Thailand: Taxi driver decked his cab out in VINES - but DLT takes a dim view!

It is a story straight out of the Amazing Thailand playbook. 

 

A Bangkok taxi driver had been driving around for 14 years collecting an ever increasing bizarre array of mystical accoutrements.

 

For Wichai, aged 70, the odd amulet for protection hanging from the rear view mirror was not enough.

 

He had decked out his passenger compartment in a thick set of vines making it look like a grotto of the occult.

 

When his cab was featured on social media netizens gave the cab the nickname "Taxi Moo Teloo" - a Thai buzzword used by people interested in mystical practices and jewelry based on a foreign movie. 

 

Unfortunately for Wichai the online attention he garnered has drawn the ire of the department of Land Transport. 

 

They took a dim view of the decorations saying it contravened Article 12 of 1979 regulations about adapting a cab and passenger safety.

 

He was fined 1,000 baht and ordered to take down the vines. 

 

And he was ordered to undergo three hours of training to make him a better taxi driver in the future. 

 

Sanook said it was the end of a supernatural legend!

It looks like a fire hazard, cannot see many ladies wanting to get

in the cab, for fear of spiders and snakes looks like a perfect home

for them,

Maybe he is just branching out as there are not that many Tuk Tuk fares to be had.

Instead of fining him the BIB should have just offered him an Olive branch!

Once weed gets to be legal for real, you will see dope-mobiles!

I think it might take more than 3 hours.

Instead of driver training, maybe he should enrol at a horticulture school.

That way he may learn to bring a bit of life and colour into his taxi
