BANGKOK (NNT) - The Government Spokesman, Anucha Burapachaisri, says relevant agencies are expediting production of vaccines to combat COVID-19, so that they are made available to the public quickly. A 1-billion-baht budget has also been allocated to the National Vaccine Institute (NVI).

Mr. Anucha said Thailand has been able to effectively control and limit the spread of COVID-19, with the country’s public health system having received praise from the World Health Organization (WHO) and other international organizations.

The government, under the leadership of Prime Minister and Defense Minister, Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, attaches great importance to Thailand’s COVID-19 vaccine development and production, so that Thai people will have a safe and effective vaccine as soon as possible.

The government has allocated a budget of 1 billion baht to the NVI. The budget will be used to support the work of the NVI and its partners and to strengthen cooperation between research and development institutions and vaccine producers in the country. The budget will also support the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Department of Medical Science in vaccine production and in entering discussions on vaccine production technology with China and Europe.

The BBC said last month they are 21 countries/universities worldwide  researching in to a COVID-19 vaccine ,most say it will be another year? before they are a vaccine ,tried and proved,

I would say Thailnd woud be way down that list ,the local Benz/BMW dealer is probable doing  quite well .

99 billion of baht we will spend, 99 billion of baht, if 1 of those billions happens to get lost, OOPS, 98 billion of baht we can spend.

Nothing up my sleeve, Hey Prawit, watch me pull 99 billion baht out of the hat! Oh Prayut, not again!

What they ought to be doing is negotiating deals with the 3 or 4 most likelies in US, Canada, Oz, UK, China, Europe to ensure they're high on the queue for supplies once the 2 or 3 winners in the vaccine race are in production.

I don't think any Thai University or lab is in the race. They're just playing with themselves at home.

by the time a viable working & SAFE vaccine is produced, covid will be long forgotten
