Popular Post ThailandRyan
DLT followup: Here is a synopsis of my morning spent obtaining my Auto license and motorcycle license Arrived at 7 am at the Chatuchack DLT office, Region 5. Que already started, had about 40 people on the chairs. At 7:45 the gals came out front and set up there table. There was a group of foreigners that they took, which included mmyself, while the Con Thais went to another line. The lead lady reviewed my paperwork and told me that it all was good and then re-qued me with number 4. At 8:15 the first ten of us were told to go to the information desk on the second floor. Once there i as given another que ticket E5 for desks 18 and 19. Went to where all of the DLT officials desks were on the one side of the second floor and took a seat. At 8:45, my number was called and I went to desk 18. The lady official looked through my paperwork and then spent about 15 minutes entering it in the sysyem. Had me verify my Address, write my name and phone number at the top of the two forms, one for an auto license and one for my motorcycle license, and sign all my photocopies of my documents I supplied. She then attached 2 more forms to the front of each packet, and handed them back to me with my passport and told me to go to the 3rd floor for testing. Once at the 3rd floor, I checked in and was given another que ticket and they took the paperwork and passport from me. Was told to sit and watch a 5 minute video with a group on the 4 physical tests to be conducted. When the first group was done inside our que numbers were called. 1st was the color test for the lights, next came the alignment of 2 sticks, and then the 3rd test was the accelerator and brake test. I thought how hard can this be, and had to shake my head as the 4 people directly in front of me failed to hit the brake in the alloted time. I completed that test and the 4th test where they check your peripheral vision. I was then sent to the 4th floor with my paperwork where I checked in, signed the book, and was given another que ticket. Then I was placed in the theater to watch the almost 45 minutes of videos. Upon completing the videos I was given my paperwork back and sent back to the second floor. New que number D228 and sent to wait by desks 15, 16 and 17. 15 minutes later my que number was called, in I went saw the final examiner who reviewed the paperwork, signed it and took my photo. I then paid her 310 baht totalfor both a car (205 thb) and motorcycle (105 thb) license, and waited 5 minutes for the machine to spit ot the licenses. Out of DLT by 10:45 am, total time of 3 hours 45 minutes, with no written or driving test taken. I did have an appointment for November 9th but just showed up today as my paperwork will be no good in another 2 weeks. No grief given and no questions asked, I just acted like I was suppose to be there and I had all the documents. Hope this helps you 4

After my first visit to the DLT for driving license I was even more scared to drive here. Expect the unexpected.
ThailandRyan
Yes, expect the unexpected. And keep a high visual horizon. 31 years driving police cruisers taught me that.
