A family member who has lived in Thailand for 4 years, is opening a BOI company (investment in Thailand). Current workplace will be closing due to COVID. We cannot find updated info on how to go out of the country and get back into Thailand for changing the work permit/visa/extension of stay. Will quarantine be required? Is the govt still requiring people to use their quarantine centers? How much is this costing? Still 2 weeks? Thanks!

Cant the old work permit be cancelled and then apply for a new one without leaving the country or is this a visa/permission to stay extension issue ?

We have been told there is no way except to go out and return. Yes, it is also a stay extension as well. It's confusing to me.

You don't state your family members nationality, but the criteria for which groups and conditions to be met can be found on his Countries Embassy website.

Attached link to Thai Embassy London as an example.

Total costs vary, Visa, Covid tests. flights, quarantine have been posted from as between £3,000K - £6,000K.

We're from the US, and have no plans to return, but this is helpful. Thank you!

Option 1) Buy the company that's closing and don't close it. :wai:

Option 2) Put 800,000 in the bank and apply for a NON-O retirement visa/extension and continue to trade as a hobby

Option 3) Get married, put 400,000 in the bank, apply for a 60 day NON-O to visit the wife and convert to NON-O married and then start the company and get a new work permit.

Option 4) Go home. get no visa and no work permit and continue to trade online w/o the paperwork hassle.

Cost for the quarantine starts from ~฿32,000 to ~฿150,000. (That's about £800 to £3,750.) There are a few recently added hotels that are even more expensive.

The person in question has been working here, and not rich. Not 50 years old, and already in a relationship with a non Thai. As for going home, she's been in Thailand for 4 years, and has no home left in the USA.
