webfact
Govt throws teenage mums an education lifeline By The Nation The government on Monday launched a nationwide project to tackle Thailand’s soaring rate of teenage pregnancies and help the young mothers involved. The “Opportunity for Pregnant Adolescents in Education” project is a collaboration of the Public Health, Education, and Social Development and Human Security ministries. Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said that pregnancy can affect the body, mind, emotions and social life of teenagers, resulting in domestic violence and less opportunity in education and jobs. An average of 169 children each day are born to girls aged 15-19 while six per day are born to girls under 15, according to Thailand’s Bureau of Reproductive Health. Last year, a total of 63,875 children were born to girls under the age of 20. Anutin said those aged 10 to 19 were supported under the Prevention and Solution of the Adolescent Pregnancy Problem Act of 2016, but his ministry was providing additional help. Education Minister Nataphol Teepsuwan said that the ministry aimed to boost sex education efforts while also offer opportunities for pregnant teenagers to remain in education. Schools and colleges routinely bar pregnant teenagers from attending class. Social Development and Human Security Deputy Minister Sagol Muangsiri said his ministry was helping to build local youth networks to support the families of pregnant teenagers. The ministry is also aiding adoption efforts for teenage mums who are not ready to raise a child, he added. Popular Post Grumpy John
Many of the pregnant teens around here are very pretty...even with a baby bulge. And you see the boyfriend's and they are usually the deadbeat bum types. But the deadbeat bums must be quite slick with the chit chat all the same. 5

Deli
Isn't it all about education at school and at home ? Actually not happening at the right levels, obviously. A modernized law in repect of possible abortion might help as well... So much to do for the next generation to come.

Teach them to march, teach them where the traditional respect sits, teach them to sing the national anthem and that Thailand has never been colonized by FOREIGNERS! That's enough!

Education of any kind to a Thai man? Never. Give them bromide, and then chemical castration, and then..........................! Off with it!

Agree, it's hard to hide the scale of this in the small villages. I see several young mothers trailing toddlers behind them most days. There are many who were teenage mothers now with teenagers themselves of course. My wifes step mothers granddaughter just found out she is pregnant at 14. She is for now continuing school but the wife tells me her education will effectively be over soon. Her classmate/boyfriend and his family are for now fully supporting her but let's see how long that lasts. The boys schooling will of course be unaffected. This could be a good initiative, let's hope it works.

Sex education, oh no! you can't get involved in dirty things like that and also ensure that condoms are not made available or discussed as this could lead to all sorts of hanky-panky. However, being realistic- these girls should be properly cared for and educated, not only in academics but life in general to help curtail unwanted pregnacies.
