When to expect a new announcement?

Featured Replies

11 days to go now...When to expect a new announcement?

Will they come with a new announcement if the amnesty is not extended or will it only happen if a new extension is given?

What should be my/the deadline for booking a flight elsewhere?

Also, will 27th Sep count as the first day of a overstay or am I on a 6 months overstay from the 27th Sep?

There is a cabinet meeting today.  We will know by 5 or 6pm today if they discussed or extended amnesty.  Next tuesday is the last Cabinet meeting before the 26th.  That would be the last possible hope of any extension.

If they don't extend it, there may never be any further announcement.

I would think if its coming it would be today. I can't imagine they wait till next Tuesday and say oh yeah everyone your good to stay dont go home in 3 days!

Their was a recent statement about not waiting to the last minute to go down to immigration to extend or change visas.. Seems like most embassies are already giving letters. They may just leave it as a get letter and extend for 1900 for 30 day thing. That could be why so many consulates changed their stance on giving letters.

Before the last extension, the news of the extension was leaked and published online several days before it was officially approved by the cabinet.  So I wouldn't get your hopes up about an extension today.

If the cabinet doesn't make a decision (i.e. doesn't act to extend the amnesty again), they probably won't make an announcement at all and leave it with immigration. Immigration have already told foreigners to extend their stay or leave by September 26th, so they might not see the need for a new announcement either.

I agree with those who think that IF the amnesty does get extended by the cabinet, it will happen today.

Yes and even today is late normally its 2 weeks before, Immigration are an arm of the government, ok they made some little exaggerations in the past, but they have been saying for months no extension past September 26th. They would look ridiculous and no one would take them seriously again if they changed their mind again.

I think booking a flight is the best idea under the circumstances before you find they are all full.

Actually they have been saying this for just 6 or 7 weeks, since end of July or August. Before this they were saying no extension past 31st July, which turned out to be wrong.

People play with fire to await this at this stage. Not feel sorry if blacklisted.

I doubt they will be blacklisting people who don't leave right away during a pandemic. They'll be happy to collect the fines though if it's not extended.

The TAT is struggling to get new tourists, and the few who have been here - corvid free - since months, should get out. As so often here, the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.

It is my opinion that the amnesty will be extended.

This conclusion is based on the current economic environment going forward and further uncertainty about COVID numbers from outside Thailand.

I anticipate the amnesty may be extended for another two months.  imo

If you feel the Thai government are logical thinkers they would extend it or announce a pay 2k per month to stay 3month plan. Problem is they're not logical thinkers. Hence last time waiting till two weeks before amnesty ends to announce it was being extended when people don't know what to do with their travel plans. Here its eleven days before time to go and nobody is sure whats happening still. So very difficult to use logic to anticipate what they will do.

Last announcement was made in the 21st July cabinet meeting for an August 1st deadline (10 days).

Today is 15th Sept cabinet meeting ......... and the deadline is 26th Sept (10 days).

So this afternoon/evening seems likely.

The amnesty should be extended, for many reasons already discussed, but will they lose face by doing so?

I would like to know what Ubon Joe's opinion or impression is.

You never lose face by showing kindness.

Richard Burrow doesn't think there be an extension and he didn't push for one last like the previous times.

UbonJoe thinks it'll be happen.

I am not sure. .

I hope so.

His opinion is based on embassy letters, not a new thing and people were extending prior to the last extension.

Will be interesting to see if it's extended again today, but ultimately I couldn't care less.

They would lose face by having hundred or thousands foreigners "expelled" during the covid thing...

Would look very stupid too with saying on another hand they look for tourists to come back but fear virus...

Actually if a reasonable solution is annonced, they save face. Meaning it was all about extracting money via agent. As i said, would have been nice (and can be) to do that more legally and clearly.

I think 99% foreigners would not mind paying a serious fee to have an official visa, but directly and without various nonsense requirements, stress and uncertainties.

Again : it's if they do nothing that they will lose face, and face a small chaos, and a very long lasting bad image.

i'm thinking its going right to the wire - friday 25th at the latest

keep the faith gentlemen
