Management at condo threatens to take the mortar away from persistent Som Tam pounders!

A major drama is brewing at a condo tower in Muang Thong Thani north of Bangkok. 

 

Residents are furious about someone pounding away day and night with their mortar and pestle.

So much so that the management have threatened to take away the mortar if the miscreant keeps on pounding. 

 

The issue has caused much debate on social media as the mortar and pestle is such an important part of Thai cooking being used for iconic foods such as Nam Phrik ( a spicy condiment of crushed chilis) and Som Tam (papaya salad). 

 

A post on social media only stirred the pot saying: "At midnight you pound, at 1 am you pound, at 9am you pound, at noon you pound....Do you eat som tam all day and night?"

 

Now a sign has gone up that if the midnight pounder is found they will be in trouble.

Residents have been asked to put a cloth under the mortar to deaden the sound.

No, I just have a great sex life and the beds against the wall

Had the same in our apartment block  its very annoying as the sound travels easily through the concrete floors and walls.

I put up some signs, the (unknown) offender ripped them down again but did (mostly) stop...well at least they put a towel under the bloody thing which helps dampen the sound considerably.

I apologise profusely for my sins, I'll adjust my headboard immediately !!

I can't afford a bed so just put a towel under my boney aรร and the big gal on top of me just pounds away.

 

My doctor tells me I risk a pelvic separation but I tell him to get stuffed. And yes, it does happen several times a day and night but that should decrease as I get older. 

believe it or not:

I had a neighbour in my apartment block in Farangland doing the same (using a mortar) for hours at nighttime. You guess the nationality of  this woman?

right!

Good to see, that  (even) Thai people do not tolerate this kind of noise Pollution.
