Pertaining to the "letter of invitation" required to obtain a business visa.

Does Thai immigration do any sort of checkup to ensure that you are, in fact, conducting business and have not simply had a Thai relative who owns a company sign a letter attesting that you are in country conducting business? This would be on invitation to a US owned company, not setting up a new company in Thailand.

I am looking to relocate for one year (minumum) and am, in fact seeking to setup a (small) trade business, but have no real business interests/ contacts, at this time, with an existing company inside of Thailand that would provide this letter (besides said relatives).

Thanks for any experience/ info.

Where you apply for a one year multiple entry non-b visa will determine what will be needed to apply for the visa at a Thai embassy or consulate. Immigration has nothing to do with it.

Immigration only issues non-b visas and extension of stay if working for a Thai company with a valid work permit.

Requirements are here on the the embassy in Washington DC's website. https://thaiembdc.org/consular-services/non-immigrant-visas/non-immigrant-visa-category-b/
