Video: Metal plate flies off water delivery vehicle into the pick-up behind

2pm.jpg

video screenshot

Dash cam footage from a pick-up travelling along Rama 2 Road inbound in Bangkok showed the moment when a large metal plate flew off into the following vehicle's windshield.

The driver ahead was unaware that anything had happened.

The driver behind, Somphat, said that he thought it was cardboard at first before it hit his vehicle.

After that he chased the water delivery vehicle to a market where the driver initially denied causing damage.

Until he was shown the dashcam footage.

Insurance settled the matter.

The metal plate was used in the transportation of water bottles and appeared to have been left on the roof.

No one was hurt.

They rarely admit responsibility, not only is it dangerous just driving

on the roads, you now have things flying through the air, trying to

kill you.

On one really stormy night up here in Chiang Mai,very windy, rain lashing

down,I seen this thing fly over my truck,I thought it was a plane crashing,

it turned out to be a huge advertising sign from the top of a building,I was

lucky that night,no damage to me.

Of course he denied until proof was given. That´s the standard act, even if you know you are in the wrong.

Many years ago in the UK the insurance on my company vehicle mandated that you "never" accept liability even if you knew you were in the wrong/were clearly culpable. Very embarrassing when it was obviously my fault in one particular instance.

It is if you're dishonest

He sees this object flying off the truck ahead and it never dawns on him to slow down or swerve to the side?

Safe trusted Thailand....

Imagine that when you are on a bike..... Definitely game over!

as he was microsleeping .. anyway could've been worse if he was a bit further up the road with that big truck lurking on the nearside ..

All too often we have seen the results of such action when a pick up drivers try to swerve out of danger. (perceived or real) It usually ends up rolling! Holding his line was probably the safest thing to do.

It is also quite conceivable that he wasn't aware that the plate had blown off until he was shown the video.

I agree.. the only problem is that there’s little to no disincentive if you will to not being dishonest.. that’s why i support mandatory minimum penalties with “aggravators” such as proven dishonesty, that bump up the penalties... so if you did it, the penalty is X, but if you lied about it, the punishment goes up to 1.5x or the like... otherwise, it’s kind of like a taking a bet based on your lie, but knowing that the losses are the same as to admitting truthfully guilt at the onset.

Very lucky not to lose his life. And of course the cops will fine him for driving with an unsecured load

Can't try to stop or you will be hit from behind
