Extension based on marriage

Featured Replies

I would like to change my visa to extension based on marriage instead of based on retirement. Is that possible. Do I need to apply 30 days before the old visa expire.

Very possible.

Apply anytime within the final 30 days of your current stay.

45 days at a lot of offices.

You can apply for a extension of stay (it is not a visa) to change from retirement to marriage during the last 30 days of your current extension up to the last day if you want to.

Best to apply late in the 30 days since the new extension will start on the day you apply due to considering the change as a cancelation of your current extension.

Yes you can.  I did it mid Sep/last month....switching from around around dozen retirement extension of stays from the original OA Retirement visa to a marriage extension of stay.  Did this at CW.

Now the IO did verbally stress in both Thai and English to the me and the Thai wife that I would not be allowed to switch back to a retirement extension of stay with that underlying, old OA visa.  To be able to switch back to using a retirement extension of stay I would need to exit/reenter Thailand to kill off the current extension and get a new visa...start fresh.  Maybe that policy is unique to CW...maybe that only applies to having an underlying OA Visa which all the retirement extension of stays grew from.....I don't know.  Just wanted to mention the IO made that point very clear to both the Thai wife and I in both Thai and English.
