Illegal logging operation in Phuparn National Park shut down by authorities

Illegal loggers trespassed in Phuparn (ภูพาน) National Park with utter disregard for the law.

Phuparn National Park Forestry officers, administrative officials, district land office officials, and Samchai (สามชัย) district police officers conducted an inspection of illegal logging operations in Samchai (สามชัย) district of Kalasin province. Authorities found timber and saws strewn throughout the area, with much of the timber ready for transportation.

Investigators revealed that Mr. Kreangkrai Phukongsoth (เกรียงไกร ภูคงสด), a local resident, is responsible for the logging operation. Mr. Kreangkrai will be charged with conducting illegal logging operations in national forest property.

Officials seized 74 timber logs, each approximately six meters long, and 50-70 centimeters in diameter. Forest Protection Division Officer Narathorn Kamwongsa (นราธร คำวงษา) said that illegal loggers operated without regard to the law and they have encroached on more than 25 hectares of national park land, in addition to threatening forestry officials.
