The Commerce Ministry has banned the import of 428 e-waste items as of September 15, and violators can face up to 10 years in prison and/or a fine of five times the price of the shipment.

Kirati Ratchano, deputy director general of the Department of Foreign Trade, said the aim of the ban is to systematically integrate the management of electronic waste and plastic scrap that has been imported since 2018 with environment conservation in mind.

The ban has also been also been put in place to encourage businesses and related agencies to efficiently manage electronic waste brought into the country.

Is that the end of Lazada?

The reality is the beaches of Thailand are saturated with plastic waste and we don't need any more, thank you.

I've been looking for something like this to dispose a bunch of LiPo batteries, as they are prone to catching fire if crushed and reacting with water. Looks like an ideal place to put them ????

Does eWaste include discharged Europeans , have'nt seen many lately here, seriously there are attempts at recycling, which aside from environmental benefits could create much needed jobs.

Oddly we have 2 such large newly installed metal boxes, used for reading matter  within walking distance in a small village , yet the battery recycling location in the nearby town has gone!

Most anything of any scrap value is taken away by the small army of scavengers..they will take batteries, oil, plastic, glass, paper, wood, metal, old tires any and all appliances..just leave it by the bins in plain view it will be gone soon enough.
