BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thai police and protesters scuffled in Bangkok on Tuesday on the eve of a major planned anti-government demonstration and police said at least four people had been detained.

Trouble broke out when hundreds of protesters gathered near the Democracy Monument, a focal point of three months of demonstrations to demand a new constitution and the removal of Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha, a former junta leader.

Protesters pushed up against a police line and some threw blue paint over the officers. Police meanwhile demolished a tent that had been set up by the protesters.

A Thai police spokesman said some people for whom there were outstanding arrest warrants had been detained and that they would now face the legal process. There had been "four or five" arrests, he said.

Thai Lawyers for Human Rights said at least nine people had been arrested and that one was injured.

Oh, surprised TVF published the news. They arrested among others Pai Daodin. Martyrs in the making.

Wasn't expecting to see this news on thaivisa 'til next week.

Someone should be very careful in how they deal with the protesters. Otherwise they may not be allowed back home.

Funny... because only 3 days ago there was a posse of government ministers speaking at a seminar on how Thailand was "a ddemocratic nation" and how "all citizens in Thailand have the right to contribute their views to the larger national conversation".

Well, I guess it depends on which level in the hierarchical structure of this "democratic nation" you find yourself and to what degree your "contribution of views" agrees with what the country's leadership deems acceptable.

What also is peculiar is that in this "democratic nations" arrest warrants are routinely issued against people whose only crime seems to be that they criticize the government and demand reforms. They didn't murder anyone, they didn't throw bombs, they didn't peddle narcotics. All they did was... wait for it!...  "contribute their views to the larger national conversation".

There is a great deal more  behind these "protestations" than is being honestly being revealed on either account .

I would be cautious about affiliation made known by non eligible contestants.

I wish them luck. Didn't expect a topic on this so soon. Watching the various live feeds right now. Some people seem to really get their pants all twisted up over the 3 finger salute and 3 demands...  thus only escalating things.  The future is with the youth.

Twitter is .. well look yourself. The top is about to blow off.

Apologies, Thaivisa is not accepting more comments on this article.
