Moving to Thailand from UK

Recommended Posts

Oh my....

i don't even know where to start

#facepalm

''a fool and his money'' come to my mind

it seems there is no shortage on the stock

OP obviously you need help, real help from a specialist

stop your TV and try to talk with normal people, it could be a start

but it's not enough, only a professional can maybe really help you

I know Thailand has quirky rules and that bureaucracy isn't as straight forward as it is in the UK. I'm just concerned I will be risking our security(roof over our head) in some way or am I just being paranoid?

Yes, and remain slightly paranoid.

Any resources transferred to Thailand should be assumed to be not returning to the UK. (and always keep the original transfer receipt for any substantial transfers) Always keep enough resources to return to GB in order.

Other wise, if the border opens, enjoy your temporary stay!

To ID2020  ---- at the present time you would have to marry your Thai GF first in the UK , she would have to apply for a repatriaton flight to Thailand and you could also apply and accompany her as her spouse after Covid testing, quarentine for 2 weeks ect. As far as I know your mom could not accompany you at this time. There are plenty of UK and EU persons with retirement visas that can't  get back here.

Keep searching for advice and keep in contact with this web site as we would like to see the results of your actions. The reason why some posts saying you need a million USD is that health insurance  for your mom may be exspensive  and not available after a certain age depending on the policy she gets and her health conditions. Something tothink about for herand yourself.

I am a kind hearted law abiding man who just wants to make a new life with his very kind and humble new family in Thailand.

Well, good luck to you... every life decision can have consequences... the more prepared you are, the better off you will be and that applies in UK as well as anywhere in the world...

After a long history here, and 20+ years of retirement, early, yes, I have no regrets. I love the people and culture here. I have been married 20 years, as they say, not only to the Thai wife but the entire family. I have enjoyed learning the culture, the language, the style of living... i believe that most poor Thais are happier than middle and even upper middle class people from USA... so, being here suits me quite well... I hope it works as well for you... come with an open mind and with open eyes and as me, you might learn another way to approach life as well...

My visa ran out at the start of May - I'm still here and legally so - and I am not alone

Hardly zero concern for guests is it?

Sounds like a lot of BS to me. In an earlier post you state that you stayed 15 years in Thailand. How in the whole world can you stay on a visa that has gone out? Are you not on a yearly extension?
