Q4: Thais want to travel but are easily put off by Covid, protests and the state of the economy

The research arm of Kasikorn Thai reported that more than three quarters of Thais have made plans to travel in the fourth quarter.

But whether they will or not is highly debatable.

Many have indicated that they will cancel if there is a Covid outbreak. They are also keeping a close eye on the political protests and the state of the economy before deciding whether to take holidays away from home.

Bangkok Insight reported that this situation was creating a very unpredictable situation regarding Thai domestic tourism that is seen as the tourism industry's only hope with the absence of foreigners during the pandemic.

With 77.3% of people having made travel plans for the end of the years it is in fact slightly up on last year.

But whether when push comes to shove they actually will is entirely another matter.

They are also spending less per trip, the Kasikorn report showed, with spending on items such as souvenirs right down.

Great Thais frightened to travel around Thailand what message does that send to local Embassies who report back to their home countries. Expect travel advisories soon. Another nail in the coffin for the tourism industry.

They are also 'put off' by the fact that they no longer have a job or a pot to urinate in !

Covid has become a bit of a bogeyman to Thai's thanks to constant scares from govt and the media. I don't think anyone has any understanding of how dangerous or serious it is now compared to say normal flu, they all think it is 100% contagious and 100% fatal

The 4th quarter is about half over I guess they better get a move on..

I like they always throw the protests into all the scaremongering.

If you believe these stupid surveys as they say. Up to you.
