Tropical Storm Vamco Warning

Featured Replies

Because of the trolling of my previous topic I want to make it clear that this is a prediction of the formation of a possible tropical storm.

It is not my prediction I am just doing a heads up for anybody who might need to take action in case of the possibility of heavy rain in Thailand.

Tropical Storm Vamco is forecast to hit the coast of Vietnam on 15/11:

There was a VAMCO storm a few years ago  I remember because it caused quite a flood in Pattaya Jomtien area,   so its seems they re-use the names quite frequently ?

World Meteorological Organization
Tropical Cyclone Naming

For contributed list of names and usage please see the section titled:

    Tropical Cyclone Names Worldwide

Western North Pacific and the South China Sea Names                                                                 V

The Regional Specialized Meteorological Centre (RSMC) Tokyo - Typhoon Centre will assign a tropical cyclone a name from the list followed by a 4-digit identification number (in brackets). Names on the list will only be given to tropical cyclones of tropical storm strength or above.

These names are used sequentially. That is, if the last storm of the year is Cimaron, the first storm of the next year is Jebi.

...

Looks to me it is headed north and maybe Thailand will get some rain in the north but the rest of the country should be ok.

he Philippines are sure getting their(un)fair share of storms this year.

And it's again the Philippines. I feel sorry for them....

NOAA-19 will pass over me around 5pm today (Sunday).  I'll grab the image and post it if it's clear/interesting.

Well, the storm turned up past Hainan Island....

Typhoon (TY) 25W (Vamco), located approximately 145 nm northwest of Da Nang,Vietnam, has tracked west-northwestward at 15 knots over the past six hours. Composite radar loop and numerous surface wind observations including those from Vinh, Dong Hoi, and Savannakhet airport indicate TY 25W has made landfall. The rugged terrain of Indochina peninsula plus the entrainment of cool dry continental air will rapidly erode the system as it drags further inland across central Vietnam and central Laos, leading to dissipation by tau 24 as it enters Thailand. This is the final warning on this system by the joint typhoon wrncen pearl harbor hi. the system will be closely monitored for signs of regeneration.//

The remnants of the storm have drifted further west and are just about to hit my location (yellow cross on the photo), but I'm not expecting any bad weather.  This image downloaded from NOAA-18 a few minutes ago.
