Over 200 Thai labourers heading to Israel for agricultural work

Labour Minister Suchart Chomklin on Thursday bid farewell to 206 Thai labourers who are travelling to Israel from Suvarnabhumi Airport for agricultural work.

The labourers are heading to the Middle East country under the Thailand-Israel Cooperation on the Placement of Workers (TIC) programme, one of the government’s plans to encourage Thais to head to foreign countries for work. The Thais are expected to receive salaries of Bt48,000.

The project in Israel began in 2012, and 5,000 labourers have been sent to that country each year since. As of February 2020, precisely 40,082 Thai labourers have been working in Israel, generating Bt54.58 billion in income.

“Thai workers have been allowed to join the TIC due to effective management of the Covid-19 pandemic, and the Israeli government requires 2,000 workers in the agricultural field,” Suchart pointed out.

He said this number would be met by January 2021 and all workers would receive training before leaving. They will also be protected under the law.

The next round of TIC registrations will be held from November 23 to 27.

The difference is the salary. If That people were paid 48k a month (or anything close to it) they would do the same job in Thailand.

then would'nt the israelis be better off inviting the cambo and burmese to work there as apposed to thais?

atleast the level of spoken english would help

They don't want to work here for ฿ 200-฿ 300 / day but, understandably, are willing to do the same work abroad at higher daily rates.

An acquaintance did a stint in Israel and brought back various tree cuttings, scions, seeds, etc., which he now grows and sells here. An added bonus if you will.

What English so you think they need when swinging a pickax or picking fruit? What's about all they are needed for.

Not confusing at all, the money is better for both parties in both their home countries... Why does anyone work in an overseas country?

For the climate? ????

Soon we will read how the exports of Thailand have increased, now the export of unemployed workers. Thailand, the hub of exporting jobless citizens.

Not unless you want to stay in Thailand and work in a shrimp factory 16 hours a day for a pittance.

i hope they'll be well treated! i've seen some  disturbing images about migrant thai workers in israel, indeed!

Apparantly, Israeli’s don’t do manual labor.

Looks like they're being paid about 2/3 the national average wage for Israel, so not super cheap labour.

And let's face it, the Thai pace of working is pretty leisurely..
