Anyone know if a thai passport holder needs to have a visa to go to Singapore? Thanks

Thai passport holders get 30 days stay stamp on arrival without the need for a visa

Posted

They are allowed 30 days without visa upon arrival

However - this is sometimes not given - it is 15 days only and they have to go to Imm to extend this

This is due to the large number of working girls travelling here - they all just go and extend anyway. They are pretty suss at working out who is though as our staff get 30 days each time they come through ;-)

If its your Mrs/GF travelling with you she will be given 30 at the airport no problem.

I'm actually thinking of relocating to Singapore with my job and would do so under a formal Singapore employment pass. Does anyone know whether my Thai G/F would be able to be granted anything over and above a 30 day visa (i.e. not having to leave Singapore every 30 days to renew) so that we could set up home together. She would also want to work in Singapore if possible.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Firstly u have to get yourself a work permit or employment pass den u can apply for your wife if not married den too bad she has to extend her visa every 30 days or let her enrol in courses where the school will give student visa for 6 months or 1 year depending on the duration of the course if she is married to u den get your marriage cert translated to english if u do it in thailand and u can apply for long term visa (6mths to 1year) at the immigration office. This is the link for FAQs

Hope this helps ....cheerschongaew

Thanks Blacklabel. Any idea how the Singapore immigration would react if a Thai visitor was making regular 30 day visit applications (we are not married) ? Are they likely to start refusing after a while ?

Also, I'm assuming that she wouldn't be able to work ?

Cheers.

Wat i encounter is she will get her extention of 30 days for the 1st time meaning she stay a total of 60 days and den she has to go back thailand and stay for maybe a week or 2 before revisiting singapore again. They will start asking questions like wat is she doing here blar blar blar.....No offence there are too many of them coming here to work illegally hence the strict rules. There are many ways to bypass all this regulation.Wat i would suggest is either tru long term visa=married, student visa or work permit....is not tat hard to look for a job in singapore it depends wat she can do, there are many thai reastarant employing thais to work....hope it helps cheerschongaew

A lot of "working" girls get 15 days. If travelling with you, they'll get 30 easy. I cannot remember how many I get, maybe only 30 as well but none of this 90 in 180 crap.

Important to go to immigration counter together so they know she is with you.

TH

That is very true. Don't go together in Vietnam though, they get very upset at that and started shouting at me !

I think Guesthouse once said he managed to get the Long Term Social Visa for his partner but you had beter check on that

Its possible if you have been together for something like 2 years in a country that recognises these.

I do not know about back to back 30 days without a few days break ie cross into JB for an hour but I do know plenty who only go home for a few days and I am not talking about working girls

When I brought my Mrs in and asked for 30 days rather than 15 explaining we had an immigration consultant working on our case the imm officer said "Get your paperwork sorted out" - the only time I have had less than smiles or extreme politeness from them.

I asked because when we came down here on our re-location visit to look for a condo etc they knew she was with me but gave me 30 and her only 15 days - that got her in a mood

Having said that I work with quite a few Thai girls who travel the region - none has ever been pulled in Singapore but one has in Korea. She was stuck for two hours and I had to ask her why she did not call the company lawyer or LOC - she is senior in a major multi-national after all

Don't expect that a Thai national can cross to Johor Bahru and will be granted another thirty days upon re-entry to Singapore. I have done that while in Singapore with my Thai friends. I was given a new ninety day stamp by Singapore immigrations, my Thai friends were given whatever time was still remaining on their original thirty day stamp (no problem though, were were simply day-tripping to JB and not looking to extend our stay in Singapore).

Thanks - I really do not know what they get if they went day triping to JB - now you have cleared it up.

I had wondered why none of them I know who come down regularly do not do a border hop al la some people do in Thailand

Quite a few non-prostitutes get only 15 days, too. It all depends on the bias and prejudice of the 'official'

Yeah I have seen that with my ex-mrs and with colleagues. Each time though they could see the visit was for only a day or a few days so its not been worth arguing about.

The working girls all seem to get the 15 days extended to 30 days without a problem though.

From the amount of remittance shops in the Golden Mile Centre for Thai's there is plenty of money going back - I see monks there every time I go doing this a lot too!

A Thai might catch a friendly immigrations officer at Woodlands and get another thirty-day entry stamp for Singapore, but I wouldn't rely on it for a long-stay. I've seen evidence to the contrary a few times. :o

I often stay in Johor Bahru when visiting Singapore and day-trip across the border. A few days of this crossing pattern and I sometimes get questioned by Singapore immigrations as to what I am doing, but they have never refused me a new ninety-day stamp. I would imagine that other nationalities might receive greater scrutiny.

Not the same I know but one of my Filipino colleagues does this trip daily - what a commute!!!

I did once want to take the ex-Mrs to Bintan at the end of 30 days for the weekend then back but somebody advised me against it
