TAT to propose allowing greater tourist access to Rao Tiew Duay Gan program

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) will propose that the board of the Centre for the Management of the Economic Situation during COVID-19 ease conditions to allow for greater access to the Rao Tiew Duay Gan (We Tour Together) program by tourists, in order to boost domestic tourism and help the travel and hospitality sectors battered by the contagion.

The Association of Domestic Travel Businesses proposed, via the TAT, that package tours, for retirees who have who have high purchasing power and can travel during weekdays, should be included in the program. The Thai Travel Agents Association (TTAA), meanwhile, proposed that premium tourists, booking overseas package tours, should have access to the program as well.

It was proposed that the government should cover 40% of the hotel expenses for domestic travel by retirees who buy package tours for three days and two nights.

A Government bailout of the tourism sector.  How does this help again.  Why not just give the money to the people directly instead and let them spend it on basic necessities like food.  Travel when people have little money is like using your credit card and not making payments because you can not pay it back after the fact. Bankruptcy is in the future...just saying.

Are you getting annoyed of continues talk about tourism in Thailand, this sector was giving not more than 17-20% of GDP. The only reason i can see, it was an easy money to get from tourists in cash for questionable services. Get over with it, it will not happen agan

Just to be pedantic -

They are not battered by the contagion. They are demolished by the government that has banned foreign tourists.

This proposal has been mentioned in news reports a couple of times already, and is still incomprehensible to me. Is there anyone in Thailand right now - I mean anyone at all - booking overseas tours? The foreign countries that are "safe" aren't allowing tourists to enter, and the ones that aren't safe are likely to impose lockdowns and/or quarantines - hardly a recipe for holiday fun. And no matter where you go, you're stuck with a two week quarantine when returning to Thailand. Am I missing something? Is a government price subsidy going to alter any of these issues?

Domestic Thai travel is low because a large slice of the population are trying to earn a living after the shut-down.

All the freebies are being taken by civil servants who get the time to go and enjoy time away from the government sponsored jobs.
