Bangkok Expressway and Metro (BEM) will increase fares on the Blue Line by Bt1 from January 1, 2021, but will maintain the maximum fare ceiling at Bt42.

The 48-kilometre Blue Line covers 38 stations and the new fare will be effective until July 2, 2022.

Fares will be increased as follows:

• One station: Bt17 from Bt16

• Four stations: Bt24 from Bt23

• Seven stations: Bt31 from Bt30

• 10 stations: Bt38 from Bt37

This increase is based on the concession deal, which allows BEM to increase fares every two years. Fares were scheduled to be increased on July 3, but BEM decided to hold off until December 31 due to the Covid-19 crisis. It is not seeking compensation from the government for the money lost.

Somehow I have a feeling most of subsequent train network expansion will go to BEM rather than BTS...
