The Thailand Meteorological Department said on Saturday that a weak high-pressure system covers upper Thailand and the South China Sea.

Cool weather and morning fog are forecast over the areas. All transport should move with caution due to poor visibility, the department said.

The easterly wind blows over the lower Northeast, the East and the lower Central, bringing isolated thundershowers to the areas.

The easterly wave prevails over the Gulf and the South resulting in isolated heavy rain in some areas. People in the lower South should beware of heavy rain.

The weather forecast for the next 24 hours:

North: Cool weather with fog in the morning; minimum temperature 17-23 degrees Celsius, maximum 33-37°C; temperature on hilltops is likely to drop to 8-16°C.

Northeast: Cool weather with fog in the morning and thundershowers in 20 per cent of the areas; minimum temperature 21-23°C, maximum 33-35°C; temperature on hilltops is likely to drop to 13-17°C.

Central: Partly cloudy with fog in the morning and thundershowers in 20 per cent of the areas; minimum temperature 23-25°C, maximum 35-36°C.

East: Mostly cloudy with thundershowers in 30 per cent of the areas; minimum temperature 24-26°C, maximum 30-36°C; waves a metre high and 1-2 metres offshore.

South (east coast): Mostly cloudy with thundershowers in 70 per cent of the areas and isolated heavy rain; minimum temperature 23-24°C, maximum 30-34°C; waves a metre high and 1-2 metres during thundershowers.

South (west coast): Mostly cloudy with thundershowers in 60 per cent of the areas and isolated heavy rain; minimum temperature 23-25°C, maximum 31-34°C; waves a metre high and 1-2 metres during thundershowers.

Bangkok and surrounding areas: Partly cloudy with light fog in the morning and thundershowers in 20 per cent of the areas; minimum temperature 25-27°C, maximum 34-37°C.

Friday afternoon west of Bangkok had a good shower for an hour or so, Saturday afternoon muggy with sound of thunder on the distance, no rain.
