Pattaya: Deputy mayor tells Thai media Pattaya is "dangerous" right now due to air pollution

Pattaya's deputy mayor has admitted that the resort is dangerous to health right now.

The amount of PM 2.5 in the air is at harmful levels, said Manot Nongyai in an interview with 77kaosod.

During the long holiday weekend the situation was worse on Friday with readings over 100 but it was better on Monday just over 50.

He blamed smoke coming in from nearby areas and car exhausts.

In areas where there were more cars the situation was worse. It was the dry season, he said.

He urged people in the Pattaya area not to make fires of trash and not to contribute to the problem by putting more dust in the air by tidying up.

77kaosod said the problem was plain to see in views from the top of Phra Tamnak Hill. They said that on Monday much of the resort was blanketed in this smoky haze while the weather was hot again.

They advised mask wearing as prolonged exposure to the smaze could cause eye and nose irritation and other complaints.

Unbelievable comment. Unfortunately, the poor man probably means it.

Thanks goodness my cleaning team does not work in Pattaya.

Well there you go then .. people should only get their motors out on rainy days .. sorted ..

We arnt even into the main burning season yet.  This is just the pre-burning season.  Wait until Jan to March.  Not sure how the government thinks its going to attract "Premium Tourists" if they have to strap on a respirator to simply survive?

Premium tourists coming from Premium air quality cities such as New Delhi, Lahore and Dhaka will greet Pattaya's dangerous pm2.5 level of 150s as "a breath of fresh air "

Not only oil refineries but vast industrial and port complexes:-

In a few weeks time, when we have the next long weekend, it'll be mist and fog causing the problem again. The official AQI meter for southern Pattaya is way out on the Dark Side, maybe 10 km inland from the sea, and the other side of the hill at Khao Talo. It's not very likely its AQI  measurements were affected by sea fog as the previous imbecilic article suggested.

because many more were killed/injured on the roads. Chonburi has now reach the top-spot as the most dangerous county in Thailand: a tribute to the local Plod, officially now the most inept force in the country.

Wait till the tour busses get in high gear .

Am I the only one here dreading a return to the 'Norm' of last year?

Think the air is the LEAST of pattayas problems......those ladyboys need those gold tourist necklaces!!!

Surprised he's owned up.  Usually it's some irrelevant, dreamt up excuse.  Must be serious.
