Two foreigners test positive for Covid-19 in quarantine hotels

The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration on Tuesday reported two new cases over a 24-hour period.

 

A five-month old Indian baby, which arrived in Thailand on November 11, tested positive on November 16 in an alternative state quarantine hotel in Bangkok after it suffered from fever and nausea.

 

A 31-year-old Pakistani male merchant arrived in Thailand on November 16 after taking a connecting flight in Dubai and tested positive in an alternative state quarantine hotel in Samut Prakarn province.

 

Meanwhile, six patients have recovered and been discharged.

 

The total number of confirmed cases in Thailand increased to 3,922 (961 in state quarantine), 90 are in hospital, 3,772 have recovered and been discharged and 60 have died.

 

According to Worldometer, as of 10am on Tuesday, the total number of confirmed cases rose to 59.5 million (up by 503,724), 41.15 million have recovered, 16.96 million are active cases (103,565 in severe condition) and 1.4 million have died (up by 7,949).

 

Thailand ranks 151st for most cases in the world, while the US has the most number with 12.78 million, followed by India 9.17 million, Brazil 6.09 million, France 2.14 million and Russia 2.11 million.

How on earth has the baby tested positive and not the parents. 

 

And who on earth, at this stage, is bringing a 5 month old baby to Thailand, having to undergo quarantine, and these PCR tests? Horrific for a small baby. If this family had an emergency reason to return back to Thailand they would have come back months ago. 

 

Shocking.

I wonder if a second test was taken to confirm the validity of the first positive test before the news was announced.

The way they are conducting these PCR tests in Thailand - they really shove that tip right into the nose to levels that are quite painful. 

 

To bring a child into Thailand, and go through these PCR tests is disgusting enough. Horrific parenting.

Sanctimonious much? - you’ve no idea why the parents need to be here with their child, to claim horrific parenting is quite the hyperbolic judgment - quite a perch you’ve placed yourself on there. 

 

I’ve had five Covid-19 tests - two in the UK and three in Thailand: they’re conducted the same way, so I can’t really point any finger at Thailand which agrees with your insinuated ‘excessively harsh test or treatment’.

 

The tests are not pleasant, somewhat uncomfortable but certainly not painful - subjecting a child (infant) to a Covid-19 test is hardly the ‘parental crime’ your overreacting suggests.

Well it’s looking far worse in India, if I had the choice of keeping my baby there or here, here really does sound better.

A collection of thoughts from your stomach, I hope not from your brain.

 

1 - How the baby was positive and not parents? He contracted it and the parents didn't.

 

2 - Maybe Thailand is better than India?

 

3 - how on earth can you assume that if they had emergency reasons they could have come long ago? How you know their circumstances?

 

4 - you are easily and mistakenly shocked.

I am 68 years old and had a Covid test last week, horrible, the swab up your nose both nostrils makes you want to sneeze and the one in the throat makes you want to throw up. 

How come all these seemingly positive tests all seem to recover quickly compared to other countries. Nobody seems to die in Thailand since the initial numbers were announced really .

1) Because the vast majority of those testing positive are those without symptoms or very minor symptoms. 

2) Because those returning and staying in State Quarantine or ASQ are generally not those in the 'high risk groups’ 

 

Thus, those who are found positive in Thailands quarantine facilities have an extremely low probability of any complication whatsoever. 

 

That said, one person did die a month or two ago which took Thailands fatality rate from 59 to 60.

Could you share your Thailand test experiences? did you have to go to a specific hospital with staff advising you that if positive you would be detained and treated in a special unit until testing negative? what were the costs?

 

Or where these tests in quarantine hotels coming back into Thailand from the Uk.?

My guess is the COVID test isn't even accurate for babies and its accuracy on babies hasn't even been tested.

The test was in the U.K., I had a hospital procedure so prior to the procedure I had to have a Covid test, it was free as was the procedure with the NHS.

The person who died was a Thai with underlying conditions, diabetes fr one.

The quarantine thing is a cash cow with government convincing Thais all foreigners are dirty, it could be managed differently but they prefer to fleece the foreigners.

This is a silly statement and not correct.

Thai returnees must also undergo quarantine. Thai returnees get free quarantine in basic facilities, but they must also pay if they wish to be in a more fancy hotel. As in many countries the foreign returnees must pay for their own quarantine facilities, which can be different levels of comfort.

Why should the Thai government pay for the quarantine costs of foreigners wishing to come into Thailand, when covit regulations are in place.

Thanks for the info, I had a hospital inpatient operation here 3 months ago, no mention of covid test........

 

But this is Thailand largely free of Covid testing!
