Thailand's AHTD (Anti Human Trafficking Division) police and Rattanathibet police announced the arrest of around a dozen suspects arranging underage sex and customers buying teens under 18 at a spa in Nonthaburi.

One of those arrested is a secondary school PE teacher who found out his student was prostituting herself and went looking for her.

Others are said to be civil servants and engineers.

Police became aware of what was going on after a spa was investigated in August. This led to them uncovering a Facebook page for "A-Spa" that advertised for "pretties for modelling" offering good money but not having to offer sex.

However, when they arrived at the spa they had their pictures and history checked and were persuaded to go upstairs where customers who had seen them online were waiting to have sex with them.

They were told that just showing their bodies was small money but they could get 5,000 to 8,000 baht a day if they showered with customers and offered massage.

Once with the clients sex was arranged in private.

Pictures of the girls were available online. Nine aged between 15 and under 18 were taken into care.

Pol Maj-Gen Sayam Bunsom chief of the AHTD said that the girls were in two groups, those that did modelling and those that were persuaded to offer sex.

So far seven people have been arrested on 13 warrants. Seven customers have also been arrested.

Some customers were "VIP" clients because they had been with girls at the spa 5 times or more. There are 25 of these men under investigation and 125 others in their sights who have been at the spa.

Many of the customers have evidence of contact with the girls on their phones along with evidence of payments having been made.

Central investigation division commander Lt-Gen TorsakSukhawimon said that the spa first came to the police's attention in June last year.

He expected there to be many more underage victims of the ring plus many more arrests of clients who went with underage girls. They include people in the civil service and engineers, he said.

Citing sources close to the investigation Daily News said that one of the customers arrested was a PE teacher at a secondary school who had discovered that his underage student was working at the spa.

When he turned up wanting sex with her she recognised him and tried to avoid having to sleep with him.

The Education Ministry found out about the PE teacher and made applications to oppose his bail.

Other arrests were made at the spa by Rattanathibet police in March and there was an arrest in August. Two more were arrested yesterday. Though the spa is now shut operations had continued online up to yesterday.

Thailand’s Criminal Code states that it is legal to engage in consensual sexual activities with a person that is over 15 years old.

Non-consensual sexual activities with a person over 15 is illegal.

Sex with a person under the age of 15, whether consensual or not, is illegal.
