I bought and registered a car in Nongkhai some years ago. I now live in Prachuap province. Can I re- register the car in Prachuap and obtain Prachuap number plates or is there some  other way that my licence plates can indicate Prachuap residence? I have been stopped twice and pulled over for a quick search. On both occasions the police told my somewhat annoyed ( Thai) wife that the road I was on was the major drug smuggling route to the South and they spotted my number plates. I really don't need the hassle. 

Visit your land transport office and get it from the horses mouth what is required by them.

 

AFAIK you surrender the plates you have and aquire new ones from them for that district.

They will advise you (or your wife) exactly what to do.
