Former opposition lawmaker announces return to Kingdom

Featured Replies

The court-dissolved CNRP’s former leadership has ordered those named in a Phnom Penh Municipal Court summons and who are currently living in exile to return to Cambodia on January 4, 2021. In a statement on her Facebook page yesterday, former opposition lawmaker Mu Sochua said that she received the orders and plans to return.

Sochua, the ex-party’s vice president, said that despite any obstruction or arrest warnings from the Cambodian authorities, she and other former members of the opposition party were committed to coming to Cambodia as planned. According to Sochua, former opposition members whose passports were revoked by the Cambodian government will use their foreign passports to enter Cambodia.

National Police spokesman Lieutenant General Chhay Kim Khoeun said that he would comply with the Phnom Penh Municipal Court’s order and if the former opposition members had a warrant for arrest, authorities would detain them immediately.

Duh. Ordered to return to be arrested? Surely this qualifies them to be Political asylum seekers?

Ignore the order. The party is disolved, therefore no one has authority to order anyone.
