Thanks for clicking the post! :o

My Girlfriend and I are desperately seeking to obtain our many questions regarding teaching English in Thailand to be answered.

Both of us have a TESL certificate (from the Intl College of Applied Linguistics) but No Degree and want to teach in Thailand (like many).

From reading various sites and this forum I’ve read that it may be possible to get a TL and WP without a degree. I’ve also read about many changes in Thailand so I wanted to check with the current opinions and possibilities of this.

I also read the non-imm B visa for 90 days or a year is the type of Visa I should try to get. Would that be possible without a degree?

I am mainly posting this information to make sure it is correct and also so that anyone with knowledge can elaborate on my post or give me some advice. Thanks in advance for any help!

You need to read every thread in the first two pages of the Teacher's Subforum. I'm not going to re-copy all of that here for you, but to give you the short answers to your questions:

1. There isn't anybody at any single Thai Ministry who can answer your questions (or anyway guarantee their answers are accurate), much less us mere mortals here on the forum. It was never very clear how things worked, and things are less clear than they ever were.

2. In the past it has been possible (depending) to get a TL and WP with a TEFL and no degree. These days the rhetoric of the government is against it, but it may still be possible (depending) to get one. No one can predict what the case is right now. If I were you, I wouldn't gamble a plane ticket on it.

3. To get the non-imm. B for the purpose of applying for a teacher's license/work permit requires the sponsorship of a school (they have to give you papers to submit while you are outside Thailand, and they also have to be "recognised"/"on the list" of the consulate where you apply.

In general, PB and I (the mods of the teacher's section) are recommending that no one, even very well-qualified people, try to come and teach in Thailand right now. It's at the point where we can't even predict if you'll be legal, so why bother? But as ever, it's up to you and mileage may vary.
