MiniVDO: The Phuket Chamber of Commerce called for a halt to any more foreign retail stores in Phuket and seeks their cooperation in paying tax to the local government.

The Vice Chairman of Phuket Chamber of Commerce Chavana Kiat-cha-va-na-se-we met with Phuket Governor Nirund Kalayanamit to submit a letter of petition requesting a halt to any more branches of foreign retail superstores or department store expansions on the island. The letter also asks those stores and convenience stores to pay tax locally, not from their head office in the capital city. The vice chairman of the Chamber of Commerce discussed the effects of such business on local retail shops, as well as the garbage such as plastic bags generated from big super stores which can be a burden for the island. He called for the delay of any new or expansion of the businesses until the new Retail Act takes effect.
