Service work in Thailand

Featured Replies

We might retire early to Thailand, Spring 2021. I'm doing the next indicated things getting ready and not getting married to the outcome - whatever might happen given all the mayhem.

What's the service work structure like in Thailand... GSR etc.?

Is there a digital version of the AA Service Manual that people use?

Who is/are the the "District" level contacts?  - if that's even how it works there.

What is needed most?

I'm gonna guess that most people have no idea what you are talking about. Try being a bit more specific about what you need to know.

Who is we?

GSR in the hospitality industry there are no jobs and probably will not be for awhile.

In the service industry; KFC, McDonald's, 7-11 may have some openings.

This is not an AA forum so people don't understand what you are talking about. I urge you to attend some of the Thailand AA meetings online (Zoom meetings) now to get familiar with some of the members involved. Personally I find most of the expat meetings in Thailand not too grounded in the AA literature and are fairly static in the attendance of members who actually live in Thailand. I don't go because there are quite a few "characters" with long dry time who actually don't do the program as designed in the literature. In what I have seen the expat meetings have not been effective in carrying the message to the local community so I use Zoom meetings and sponsor people from all over the world. There is a service structure here which I have participated in and again found that it lacks in basic knowledge of the real AA program. It is more about fellowship and some hazy ideas about what the actual program is. etc.. More information can be found on https://aathailand.org/

best of luck to you. likerdup, sober AA member 27 years on the 12 step program as outlined in the Big Book and 12 and 12 books of AA.

He's an AA member who strayed onto the wrong forum site. If anyone has a problem with drinking in Thailand or anywhere else what worked for me is attending AA meetings and then doing the 12 step program of AA. If anyone is trying to stop drinking and find they have trouble doing it on their own then AA can help. Visit aa.org or aathailand.org (for local Thailand meetings and online Zoom meetings)

I have been a GSR and DSM, even attending an AOSM meeting  as the Thailand rep.

However, there is a very small number of members interested in service. One problem is the lack of Thai language ability. I think AA should do what the missionaries do and send members to language classes.

I know members who are kinda interested but can't even say "I'm an alcoholic" in Thai, despite living here decades.

There is a national service meeting once a year in Bangkok. Feel free to message me for more info.
