Help Needed! How To Call A Lao Mobile From Thailand

Featured Replies

I need to contact a Lao friend who is based in Vietaine. I have a 7 digit number that worked there but when I try from Thailand it doesn't work.

I've just spent an hour researching on-line to find the "extra number" needed for it to work. I've tried 10 or so possiblities but no luck.

Does anybody here know what I'm doing wrong?

Many thanks in advance.

856 is the country code for Laos. 21 I believe is the area code for Vientiane.

So if you're dialing a landline in Vientiane, 123-4567, you'd dial:

+856-21-123-4567

Most cell phones in Laos are area code 20 I believe, so in that case dial:

+856-20-123-4567

I heard that some cell phones in Laos use a different area code, but not sure what it is. 60 sticks in my mind, but not sure if that's correct or not. Anyways if you called to their number when you were in Vientiane you should have whatever the area code is for the cell phone and just use that.

Be sure you dial the "+" at the beginning or else it won't work.

Wow, I just noticed in re-reading my post that this is my 856th post, and giving advice on the country code in Laos which is also 856. What a coincidence. Maybe I should go out and buy a lotto ticket with some of these numbers. :o
