May 8, 200719 yr I am relatively new to Thialand and its rules for visits. I understand that under the new (October) rules, I can visit as many times as I want as long as the total time does not exceed 90 days in any 180 day period. That if I reach the 90 day number, I cannot come back in until 90 days has passed. I have done a search of the forum trying to answer the following question, but have not found an answer. I am a 62 year old USA citizen and will arrive in June with a plane ticket to leave in August. The total time in Thailand for this trip is 46 days. I do not have time to get to the embassy to get a tourist visa. I have several concerns Will they admit me when my plane out of the country is over 30 days? Can I go on a visa run and get a new stamp for 30 more days. I have read some comments that seem to indicate this is not a sure thing anymore? I know I need my passport, 10K baht, and plane ticket when I leave to show them upon re-entry? Should I book a quick flight to Cambodia and come back to LOS via the air route? Thanks for your help

Thanks for your help You should be able to leave the country by land or air and return to get stamped back in on the "visa exempt" entry. The only thing some people have expressed concern about, is the airline not letting people board without a visa, if the the departure date was more than 30 days from time of entry. Also, one clarification, even if you used your 90 days within the 180, you could still return with a tourist visa or some other valid visa.
May 8, 200719 yr You can always enter the country if you have a visa - only if you do not have a visa would you have to stay out of the country 90 days+. Immigration is not likely to be concerned with your ticket status (only the Cambodia border is checking that closely) but airline could say you need to change your ticket to meet the 30 day stay you are allowed. Check-in early just in case they make you change or buy a new ticket. But you likely will not have any problem. But you have more than enough time to obtain a tourist visa - this can be done by mail within three or four days yourself our you could use a visa service (most travel agents can help). There are also about a dozen Consulates across the country that you could visit if you want to do in person.

Thanks for your help Not sure why you can't get a tourist visa in the US but you must have a reason for saying that. You say your planned trip is for 46 days. The only possible hiccough is check-in in the US , though this is probably not going to be a problem if you have a return US-Thailand ticket. Maybe call the airline and ask. As far as I know there is as yet no reports of immigration asking to see return tickets or cash at Bangkok airport. As far as extending your initial 30 days (it actually works out at 29 because they include arrival and departure days) you can extend for a further 29 days by a day trip. There are reports of needing an onward flight ticket at the Cambodian border but by this time your return Thailand-US would cover this. Hope this helps.
May 8, 200719 yr When I went to Thailand last September and stayed until December, I did so on an entry tourist visa, aka 30 day visa obtained when I entered the country. Every 30 days I did a Visa Run to Myanmar. Piece of cake. Once my 90 days was up, I simply left as scheduled.

May 9, 200719 yr You mean there is no longer a 30 day Visa on Entry? Or have the Visa Run rules changed?
